Park ‘must leave Arsenal in two years’

Arsenal’s Park Chu-Young, who only joined the club at the end of the transfer window, has confirmed he will have no option but to leave the club in two years time to do national service.

The South Korean risks faces jail or even exile from his homeland if he does not complete 21 months in the military before he is 30 and the £4 million signing from Monaco said there is no way around it.

“I’ll have to leave Europe in two years’ time and I thought this would be an incredible place to finish. My national service is inevitable and there is no point in thinking anything else,” said the 26-year-old.

“I’ll still be playing games, but for an army club. I think it’ll be difficult to return to Europe after that, although if something interesting comes up, you never know.”

Park has yet to make an appearance for Arsenal in the Premier League although he did make his debut in the Carling Cup win over Shrewsbury.

He has scored 21 goals in 55 appearances from the South Korean national team.

Man when will you wake up? The club is crying out for changes, as we have incompetence on every level. Poor transfer/contract management (they want to save money even after the 2-8, the Fabregas/Nasri sagas), stupid statements and lies (instead of saying that we will bounce back Gaz says we don’t even need CL/top 4; lies like “we will be active in the tranfer market …”), shit medical team, a dodgy manager who refuses to use tactics, cannot motivate, refuses to use help (eg: defensive coach) and backs up dodgy people. What we’ve got is a horrible mess. It hurts me but I’ve not been to the Emirates since the Emirates Cup and I keep it that way. Idiots say back the team. Really? A team that spits us and Wenger (however clumsy he is) in the face. Wake up.

£4 million transfer fee plus two years wages, this “deal” is beginning to look very dodgy.  Who was responsible for this little fiasco?  One of Gazidis’ team of “world class” executives?  Sack the f*****g lot!

What a farce!!  What the hell is going on at this once great club.  And please don’t say that Wenger is innocent here, that his fingerprints are not all over Park’s contract, because if he didn’t agree to this transfer then he really shouldn’t be running the team.  I think this transfer points to Wenger leaving at the end of the season.  What a mess this is!!!!

Park does not have to leave in two years time. The Club has to pay a further 3 Million to make him exempt from call up. We have this option. This is widely reported and well known, just Google this.

pretty sure that’s not true but if you can give it link it would help…

Korean celebrities have been sent to jail for avoiding military service so pretty sure you can’t just pay money and avoid it. Also have you considered he might actually want to do it because it is considered really shameful if you don’t.

Here mate, something about a Police Service option and about an Olympic medal.  http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2011/aug/30/park-chu-young-wenger-arsenal

        Something about exemption here: http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/football/premier-league/1037/89/park-deal-could-cost-arsenal-%C2%A310million

Like I said Rob, it just needs to be Googled. There’s no smoke without fire, right? Two years service from Park for 3 Million is ok in my book any way. Is it likely he’ll be going to National Service 1 year before the World Cup? This remains to be seen.

I don’t know. You might be right but I would have thought these quotes are from a more reliable source than talksport:

“I’ll have to leave Europe in two years’ time and I thought this would be an incredible place to finish. My national service is inevitable and there is no point in thinking anything else,” said the 26-year-old.
“I’ll still be playing games, but for an army club. I think it’ll be difficult to return to Europe after that, although if something interesting comes up, you never know.”

And that guardian article doesn’t say he can be exempt only that he could play for a police football team which is still useless to us. We’ll see though. Hopefully he will make his debut before he has to leave!

Park was purchased for one reason only – to sell the Arsenal Brand to Asia. I suspect in the two years that he’s in an Arsenal shirt, he’ll more than make up for his fee and wages in Asian shirt sales. That doesn’t hide the fact however, that we are a Club in turmoil. Gazidis and Kroenke out – Dein and Usmanov in! We need people running this club who genuinely love this club!

I have to believe Wenger will be gone end of season. It’s getting embarrassing for Kroenke who apparently is a real competitive d**** in his quiet way. It’s wrong to see him as some kind of “accountant” character.

I dont think, like Dr Evil, he will tolerate failure much longer. Wenger will be the fall guy and maybe Ivan. And about bloody time.

It’s interesting that all that stuff about “building” a team and it’s “a young team” excuse has gone away. That 2007-11 team never truly got built and it didn’t deliver now we have drafted a few veterans at the last minute as a stop gap for this season until Wenger is replaced. There is no more project.
