Is Wenger still the right man for Arsenal?

It is clearly evident that during recent months the red and white armoury has come under intense pressure, with many even questioning whether “Arsene Wenger is the right man for Arsenal Football Club?”.

A few years ago such a question would have been responded with laughter, yet today critics and many Arsenal fans find themselves pondering on the very thought of Arsenals greatest manager being replaced. Nobody can dispute the fact that Arsene has built a legacy, by taking an average mid-table team and transforming them into world class performers that truly know how to play the beautiful game. Moving on from the tough tackling days of George Graham, and the one nil wins followed by “boring boring Arsenal” chanting, Wenger has brought a sense of elegance and swagger to the club.

With those that once jeered now finding themselves mesmerised by the exquisite passing and free-flowing attacking flair of Arsenal Football Club. Arsenal’s growth in unique style and brand of football has not been an overnight achievement. The important thing to emphasis is that such success, as oppose to the likes of Jose Mourinho and Roberto Mancini, has been achieved with little resources.

Unlike Chelsea and Manchester City’s Billionaire owners investing Millions of pounds buying new talent, Arsenal have always chosen an alternate path, one that has involved the manager implementing his philosophical views of “creating talent as oppose to buying it”. A belief that the clubs modern day foundations have since been based on and an understanding shared throughout the hierarchy of the club.

The “miracle worker”, an alias once used to describe Arsene Wenger by former Vice Chairman David Dein, has managed to unearth gems in the form of Patrick Vieira and Theirry Henry, combined with bringing out the best in club veterans such as Dennis Bergkamp and Martin Keown. All whom featured in Arsenals 2003/2004 squad that went on complete the whole season unbeaten, a freight that was later to be dubbed the “Invincible Season”.

Arsenals other success under Wenger has included two more Premier League titles, four FA Cups, four Community Shields, and a host of runners up medals including 2005/2006 Champions League. In fact, under Wenger the club has never finished below fourth place and failed to qualify for Europe.

Arsene Wenger’s knowledge and economical background should also be noted. As well as impressively holding a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and Economics respectively, the French maestro along with his native language and English can in fact speak fluent Japanese. This is following a brief, yet trophy packed, spell in Japan’s domestic J-league where he coached Nagoya Grampus Eight. His shrewd business dealings in difficult financial times have resulted in huge dividends being paid, with profits well exceeding overheads.

Hence majority stakeholder Stan Kroenke’s recent public showing of support for his manager. Yet despite all this, the question still remains is “Arsene Wenger the right man for Arsenal Football Club?” The well-informed person will tell you that the facts speak for themselves.

I dont think fluency in Japanese is a reason to keep Wenger. That’s a pretty desperate argument.

Lest we forget we are continuing relegation form since the Carling cup, who else would still have a job at a “top” club?

He is done, finished. The players dont believe in him anymore. You don’t come back after 8.2 his credibility is permanently damaged.

We keep passing milestones of failure, the latest is we won’t finish top four. At what point – relegation? Do even the most ardent Wenger lovers say enough is enough?

My belief is the decision has already been made to ditch him in may and they are looking around for a replacement. This is a caretake / transitional season that will see us finish 8th is my guess.

As to top four for those that say it’s “only 8 points” that means we have to win three more games all season long than Liverpool, Spurs, Newcastle. Etc to get to top four. How likely does that sound? Not impossible but nor is me being an astronaut 47, just unlikely.

So what is the next milestone of failure ? Van Persie leaving springs to mind.

My biggest dissappointment this season has to be some arsenal fans. Instead of sticking together to support each other out of a bad start to the season, we just keep sowing further division. THAT is going to be the downfall of this team, if we don’t change

Looks like you got the van Persie bit wrong based on his most recent comments that he is committed to Arsenal and that his house has been on the market for a year, also he has bought a new house in LONDON. His decision not to sign a contract at the moment is probably based on improvements in squad investment and by waiting a bit longer seeing his stock rise.

After Saturday’s matches we are 3 points behind the Tots,4 behind ‘pool and 6 behind the barcodes, it’s a start, and didn’t John Glenn travel back into space in 1998 aged 77?

Lest we forget since February 27, yes that’s a long time ago already, we have won only 4 of 18 premier league games.

    Why is Wenger still here??

you lot are so pathetic.worse supporters in the country by far.
as for the article sounds like someone had nothing better to write but to try stirring up more upset and putting more pressure on club, no wonder players leave the club, it nothing to do with lack off success but a lack off decent support from our supporters

  • The Death of British Football

For all the people who are saying “Wenger out”, I couldnt disagree more.  The moment you realise British football is about to die a death the better. What is the point when Billionnaires can buy a club and in effect buy silverware…… Why should all clubs have to compete with Billionaires who Bankroll a club and get into debt….. Look what happened with Leeds United when they tried to buy it without a Billionaire… They ended up imploding ………… Is this what you are really asking Arsenal to do, you want our club to be Bankrupt and in league 2??????????

Some Arsenal fans need to think bigger picture than it is Arsene’s fault….. The things that are his fault such as not addressing our defense for the past 6 years and not having a Plan B in some matches…..

    Arsenal for Life…..

An excellent post, completely misread by many of those commenting. After a somewhat precarious start to our season, it is vital for all true supporters of our great Club to regroup and support our Manager 100%. To those doom and gloom merchants, you have no choice. The time to review the season and our achievement is at the end, not at the beginning.

Imagine what it must feel like for Van Persi.  Since Feb 27 only 4 wins in 18 PL games.  he knows Wenger is not going to change his transfer policy.  I will be shocked if he Van Persi signs a new contract.  The team is in decline on the pitch and he knows it

The problem with the internet is that everyone has a voice and regurgitates everything that they have read elsewhere. This mind numbing piece is a great example of what I’m talking about. How about just think about doing the best in what you do and hoping we win tomorrow?

All crap. Arsenal were the 2nd biggest team in England on trophies won when Wenger joined, since then Man Utd and Chelsea have overtaken. He’s done a great job, but isn’t GOD. The problem is, he thinks he’s GOD. Get rid of this arrogant man, Arsenal needs a manager than can start from scratch and coach defence.

attending all games doesn’t make you loyal than the rest, besides when you attend these games, you normally see how Wenger hungs his head low, such a reassuring sight for his team on the pitch and everybody watching,an embarrassing sight that clearly shows he’s lost the plot, don’t be mad with other fans comments but read your manager’s body language, reactions, deeds, and think can he really progress anymore,he shows it himself, don’t deny you don’t see.we simply need change

all of you think for a moment, why did he have to plead with Rice to give him one more season? is it because Rice is the only one who accepts his dormant/stagnating ideas and he will find it hard getting an assistant who will accept all his ideas and policies or is it because, finally he will resign at the end of the season? we need a new manager,Wenger is predictable, arrogant and is in denial.we all love the club more than Wenger so for those who shut others opinions because they think they are the most loyal fans and attend all matches should know this question wouldn’t have been asked if all was well,we all know the manager can be changed but the club can’t,therefore let the manager go,just as we so him come in 1995,we can rebuild and always remain with ours Arsenal.

Arsene will make agood CEO of a PLC. No doubt about that Taranjit. Please dont just live on past glories forgetting the present prwdicament. If Wenger is true to his salt, looking at his CV, then he will be able to raise our club back to its deserved place. We will wait the next few games to see how he deals with his team’s stagnation. Maybe after a few more games if there is no change then, ONLY then can we be sure that Arsene has actually lost his plot. Then the Want Wenger Out Group have a good case to ask for his removal

I am saddened by how much bitching we seem to do as supporters. It is embarrassing. The press have a field day everyday and just fuel this negativity.. and we don’t do anything to help matters. Grow some balls, we are 6 points off 4th spot. We are still in every competition, we have some amazing and I mean amazing youth coming up… the same youth that Arsene got in… we have been improving irrespective of the wall of hate and negativity coming at us.. Our new boys have hardly had a chance and they have already been written off.. I am ashamed of our fans, I was ashamed watching the news during the last day of the transfer window with how some of our lads were behaving behind the news guy… we are making ourselves look like fools and it is not nearly as bad as everyone thinks.. some teams start strong and others come in time… we have always started strong but are taking time in coming right… just give it time… you talk about loving the club, who are we going to get in to fix this, who honestly is there??? Wenger is recognized globally as one of the best and if we loose him then the one’s who once begged him to leave will have to eat their words when we beg him to come back.. wake up or shut up and lets just let the lads get on with it and get behind them… It is pitiful that you call yourselves fans and you go on like this… I am embarrassed not by Wenger or our team or club but those of us who are behaving like this.. sort it out or sod off..
