Wenger Confident van Persie Will Sign New Deal

Arsene Wenger is confident that club captain Robin van Persie will sign a new deal at the club.

The Dutchman, who has been sensational for The Gunners so far this season, has just 18 months left on his current contract. Despite last summer’s high-profile departures of Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas, Wenger is sure the 28-year old will put pen to paper.

“He has 18 months to go and I’m confident he’ll sign a new deal. I’m always confident.”

Wenger has assured fans that he will do everything he can to keep the Arsenal skipper, after a number of unforgettable performances, which have led to many labelling him as the best striker in the world at the moment.

The news comes after today’s feisty AGM, which saw Arsene Wenger ask all supporters to trust him. Stan Kroenke and Peter Hill-Wood, who responded to questions, were also present.

I'm 20 and have been an Arsenal season ticket holder since 2006. My family has had Arsenal links since the 1920's, and the support is still going strong. I am at every home game, and also manage to get to multiple away games, when I can. I have been writing for various blogs and websites since I was 15, but have now settled down and have become a regular writer for Arsenalinsider. I also run my own Pro Evolution Soccer blog, Only Pro Evolutions. Arsenal is my passion. Writing is my passion. I was never good enough to play for The Arsenal, so I'll do the next best thing!

Just like he was confident Nasri would sign a new deal?

If he does sign a new deal I wouldn’t be surprised if the main reason for it was to increase his selling on value.

Yeah we have heard this all before. We knew Fabregas was leaving for at least two years and we knew Nasri wanted out as early as March and yet somehow Wenger let that drama dominate everything for half a year, the team becomes a shambles, no one is signed early in the window to get the team settled, and then he does a panic buy only after we got hammered 8.2.

Let’s see how the club can bungle this Van Persie situation.

He better stay as Virtually NO one else can score. Without RVP we would be in the bottom 4 right now.

with all due respect…Nasri wanted to sign a new deal with Arsenal.
it’s the board that didn’t provide a counter offer in January and left it till the summer.

Nasri took that as them not wanting him and he went looking elsewhere. i’m confident that he would have signed if they did it earlier and didn’t leave it to the summer…same will go for RVP. if they dont sign him on a long term contract in Jan..he will walk in the summer.

they’re all humans…they all want to have their future sorted out sooner rather than later. especially RVP…why would he wait for a last minute deal when (with his history) he can get injured at any time and not be able to get a new long term contract.
