Arsenal’s Form MUST Continue After International Break

I admit that I’m not the biggest fan of the English national team (Terry, Cole, Rooney… do I need to go on?), but yesterday’s win over Spain was stunning. The performance was far from beautiful but at the end of the day, Fabio Capello and his side, which was missing many stars, were able to get the job done, beating the world champions at Wembley Stadium.

Despite fielding a side without the likes of Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerrard and er, Rio Ferdinand, England were able to overcome a very strong Spanish side and win after a, let’s say, professional performance. On a weekend that will be remembered for something much more important than football, it was genuinely heart-warming to see our country achieve victory, especially after The FA’s absolutely ridiculous poppy row with the morons at FIFA.

So, moving on to the sport we all love. Well, the club side aspect of the game anyway…

It’s a shame that the international break came at a time when things were going so perfectly for us. After such a devastating start to the season, it’s been sensational to see us return to our typical form, picking up impressive wins against the likes of Chelsea and Stoke City.

After a string of superb wins, it seemed that we were finally getting back into the title race, didn’t it?

With Manchester City spending ridiculous amounts of money on world class talent, and with that trend set to continue once again in January, it’s hard to think that City won’t buy win the league this year – the demolition at Old Trafford is a clear suggestion of how the league places will be decided this year.

Some Arsenal fans may slate me for being unambitious, giving up the title already. But at the end of the day, I think everyone should appreciate how hard it is to compete against Manchester City Football Financial-advantage Club.

Even if Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez (ha!), Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli were all ruled out for the rest of the season with serious injuries, it still wouldn’t be too much of a problem. If they needed to, they could resolve all their problems within a couple of weeks, by spending ‘just’ another £150m and importing a few more of the world’s best.

Ultimately, everyone in the game needs to be realistic. That includes fans, as well as the actual players themselves.

It’s sad to accept, but no Arsenal fan should really expect us to compete for the title this year. Clearly, things have changed. Unless something absolutely spectacular happens, if you expect us to win the league this year, you’re only going to be spending the next 6 months wishing for a miracle – that’s never going to come.

But just like we experienced a few months ago, things could be worse – much worse.

With results like Manchester City’s 6-1 win at the Old Trafford demolition, as well as our own 5-3 victory at Stamford Bridge, Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea are all equal at the moment.

With an ageing squad, Manchester United will probably have to spend again in January. Also, with an out-of-favour Rio Ferdinand and a very clumsy Nemanja Vidic at the back, in-front of the ever-settling David De Gea, their defence is going to face problems.

Chelsea are still a good side, with an array of quality talent. Despite their “embarrassing” loss against us, they have enough quality to turn things around. There’s no doubt that Chelsea needed this international break – although I’m certain Fernando Torres will continue to flop, with his ludicrous £50m price tag still in mind.

So we’re half way through the break and none of our squad have picked up any injuries. I just pray we will be able to say this at the end of the week, so we’re all ready for next Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off against Norwich.

It’s vital that our side continues the impressive run we were on, before this international break. If we avoid injuries, we will achieve. After a rushed end to the summer transfer window, it seems that our side has finally gelled.

I'm 20 and have been an Arsenal season ticket holder since 2006. My family has had Arsenal links since the 1920's, and the support is still going strong. I am at every home game, and also manage to get to multiple away games, when I can.

I have been writing for various blogs and websites since I was 15, but have now settled down and have become a regular writer for Arsenalinsider. I also run my own Pro Evolution Soccer blog, Only Pro Evolutions.

Arsenal is my passion. Writing is my passion. I was never good enough to play for The Arsenal, so I'll do the next best thing!

Leaving aside Man Moneybags from the league title race it seems to me that we would still struggle to finish first with our current  squad .
Keeping Van Persie fit is paramount to us getting a top 4 place. Had he been so at the last World Cup he might well have a winners medal instead of Fabregas,This shows the danger of over relying on one player . Wenger needs to sign another striker wih a proven record at top level and to stop gambling on the Park and Chamaka type stepping up a couple of nothces or so .

Utter garbage, How the hell can you compare yourself with Man United ? they absolutely took you to the cleaners and had Sketchley written all over you, you really do have some front to just dismiss the goal against column like it doesn’t matter and now within weeks of beating a very poor Chelsea team who even QPR gave a footballing lesson too, you are back in with the elite, it does not take a genius to work out one man has been outscoring the 2 or 3 you ship each week..behave and write something factual !..you would happily have Young, Rooney, Hernandez, Evra, Nani, Fletcher, Vidic, down the Emirates..ridiculous posting, United will push City close to the title, you will be lucky to be within 15 points of them..how the F*ck is that equal ?

yes and that form is pretty consistent, City hammered Spurs and United didn’t exactly beat Spurs easily and a weak spurs team went up there, Spurs then beat Arsenal, United beat Arsenal, and City hammered United like they did Spurs..all very consistent, Spurs beat Liverpool easily, and given previous meeting at white hart lane in the last 2 seasons will beat Chelsea too..so I ask again  how does a side who have still only conceded 3 away goals compare with a team who have conceded 17 on the road..I am talking about now and nothing indicates better that united are still a force than the goals against column..no argument is there !…and 7 points ahead with Arsenal still having to lose to city like everyone else has done !

Ha Ha, bigsy I love the way you forcast results based on certain teams beating others therefore each result is a foregone conclusion, I realise you’re a tipster but I’m sooooo glad I didn’t put my house on the England/Spain game as suggested, and therefore this analysis of yours falls on deaf ears for me.

My prediction for you: We will finish above you, why? cos we’re better, always have been always will be.

Isn’t that what Football is all about Berg10 ? looking at the fixture list, working out where your 3 points are coming ? you cannot possibly disagree with my post because it would mean that you have never sat back and looked at a draw in a cup competition and worked out your chances of failure or succeeding, of course you have so I dismiss that as normal wind up tactics, you have always been better as a rule yes, but again I could be picky and point to the odd decade where you were obviously not but as a whole Arsenal football club has always been superior to spurs, but what I am uncomfortable with is that a fan base who has seen the very best in the business is incapable of recognising when they are inferior to there neighbours , I have just admitted it, or are you seriously saying that when all the pundits say that Man City and Spurs have the best squads int he league you think TV and RVP can do it on their own ? the 2 biggest injury prone risks at your club carry the weight of expectation..A bit like asking Peter Sutcliffe to run a pole dancing club in my view..all risks and no proven track record to prove an injury free season heads their way..tick tock tick tock the injury sands are running in my egg timer..and you know it !

            Bigsy.

Aww! Fair play the situation as we stand looks promising for you and I understand why you’re filled with enthusiasm, but I am confident Wenger will turn it around, in fact the process has already started, we’re getting better but can you?

For whatever reason AW continued planning strategies around Cesc when all AFC fans and rivals doubted he would be around this season, I don’t know why but I don’t believe Le Prof is stupid so that’ll remain a mystery but that was one major setback, the second was Na$ri, for that one I blame Gazidis, this left a gaping hole in the long term plan. However, AW is the man to turn it around and I believe he will. Yes, he’s made prophesies that can be shot down, nevertheless I’m of the opinion he’s taken it on board (failings) as we’re seeing U turns such as contracts offered to over 30′s, loaning out the deadwood….

Please believe me when I say I am of the opinion we will finish above you, not blind faith, no rose tinted specs just cxonfident that’s all. I’m not even going to name a saviour, it’ll be a team effort.

On injuries, what about lead legs, Gallas, Daws…..?? and that’s without any surprises, what if kagool , bale or fan the fart as JiN calls him get injured and OMG I forgot Modders, what a disaster.
            Oh dear oh dear!!

I cannot believe how much that post has wound me up…Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs will be hard to split this season..but comparing yourself to United is nonsense..they have conceded 3 goals on the road this season you have conceded 17..PLEASE you are really doing your fans an injustice..who are far more intelligent than that on the whole mashman excluded.

Goes without saying form needs to continue and we have a run of winnable games when we return. Need to just take a game at a time and see where we end up. The experience we have in the team now should help us along. We have Fulham in a couple of weeks and they thoroughly outplayed ethe scum last week. But we have them at home. Ledley ‘wan’ King thinks spurs will win the league. Will put my money on them tomorrow

Ah, a positive post, (well done Mashman) unlike the pathetic towel throwing garbage at the top of the page, as the saying goes “it aint over til the fat lady sings”.

Admittedly the odds are stacked that certain teams will be tough to beat but for me being a fan is supporting my team with belief that on our day we can beat anybody, not to be mistaken that we WILL beat anybody. If you can’t think of anything positive to say about your team when they’re on a god run say fcuk all!!

We’ll be back in the top 4 within a few games. Newcastle, Chelsea and Liverpool have tough games and will drop points. City, United and spurs will remain ahead of us for the mid term though. This is my prediciton.
