Crocked Andre Santos out for three months for Arsenal

Arsenal defender Andre Santos is set to be missing from action for three months, the club has just announced.

A report on the website says: “Arsenal Football Club can confirm that, following investigations and subsequent medical opinions by Club specialists, left-back Andre Santos will have surgery to repair ligament damage in his right ankle sustained in the game against Olympiacos last week. Andre will have surgery in Brazil this week and is expected to be out for around three months. Everyone at the Club wishes him well.”

It’s a nightmare scenario for AW as Gibbo is out injured and TV5 has had to deputise in the position, robbing us of his strength in the central defence. Ho and indeed, hum.

So who will AW recruit in the January transfer window? Wayne Bridge on loan? Anyone know of any decent left-backs twiddling their thumbs?

why dont we put LK at right back…vermaelen back in the middle with PM..and then bring in Miguel to the left side.

i’m sorry but Djourou is a HUGE liability in the right back position.

surely wenger must buy a defender now. Gibbs cant be relied on to play more than 5 games in a row. 1 striker and 1 defender in Jan please. Probably a left back. Pedro Bothelo was playing left back last season for Cartagena but this season look like he has been playing as a left winger so i dont know if he is the answer but surely the minimum wenger will do is bring him back from his loan.

agreed Djourou is the biggest liabilty i’ve ever seen. Sorry but he has to go.

DJOUROU IS NOT COMPETENT ENOUGH TO PLAY A GAMES OF THAT MAGNITUDE … MIGUEL ON THE LEFT ,VERMALEEN IN THE MIDDLE WITH PETER AND LK ON RIGHT BACK

I’m usually a left winger but I’ll have a go.

I saw Monzon of Nice has been linked with us recently but i have to say i am not a fan. He is pretty average for me. I saw him play against auxerre on sunday and he a pretty poor game. Skyed a penalty and was caught out of position a few times. his crossing is pretty good though. Yanbayev of lokomotiv moscow has been linked in the past but i’ve not seen too much of him but he looks pretty quick and solid. maybe sign a CB and use TV4 at left back if needed. I think he will need to sign one in the summer anyway. Squillaci and Djourou should be sold. One CB can replace those two because Miquel is progressing well and i think Boateng will come through next season. Maybe sign Cahill or Alex and use in more of a bench role when gibbs and santos are fully fit. Or go for someone like Vertongen now. But who knows.

Despite the overwhelming need I don’t expect AW to recruit a LB any more than I expect a striker.  He’ll just say Giggs is coming back.  He’ll stick Tommy V out there, thus weakening us at CB.

    Taiwo, Ansaldi, Capdevila etc.

Botelho’s never going to play for Arsenal. He’s been in Spain for 5 years and still haven’t got as much as a chance with Arsenal.

Another worrying/intriguing thing is when the reserves join the 1st team to fill in at the fullback positions, it is Miquel (CB) and Yennaris (CM) filling in. Where are our reserves fullbacks? The whole point of having reserves is that when first teamers are unavailable, they can step up and fill the gap. It’s the same problem with the 1st team, playing CB at fullback positions.
