Gazidis ponders giving Clock End back to Gooners

Well, would you believe it? It seems as if progress is on the Arsenal horizon with chief bod Ivan Gazidis seemingly open to ideas from Gooners on improving the atmosphere at the Emirates. Revealtions this morning on Twitter suggest that the club are pondering the option of booting away fans upstairs in the Clock End, thus allowing home supporters cheaper seats and improving the unity at that end.

I’d argue that the majority of noise we do make at home games comes from the lower tiers, largely (although the upper chaps do join in granted) and this move would surely increase the decibels.

The good new doesn’t stop there. For it is also said that The Wonder of You by Elvis has also been ditched and there is a chance the anthemic Good Old Arsenal will make a welcome return when the teams take to the pitch.

We have our friends at @BlackScarfAFC on Twitter to thank for this insight. They have tweeted this: “One of our guys had a word with Gazidis at last night’s AST drinks & it seems the club are willing to consider two of our larger proposals…namely moving away fans to the upper tier, and having season ticket holders on the Clock End.

“Gazidis rightly said there are a couple of issues re moving away fans, but we say it’s not impossible to overcome the obstacles. As for ST holders on the Clock End, that could be achieved very easily. Let’s get the Clock End back!

“Apparently Gazidis was also asking people if they wanted ‘Good Old Arsenal’ back, and indicated that The Wonder Of You is definitely gone. The proposal would see the away fans moved to the upper tier i.e. giving home fans the lower tier and 3,000 cheaper tickets.”

The one issue is that existing fans in the upper tier would refuse to move but it is argued that this isn’t something that can be overcome.

All good, eh? BTW see the Black Scarf website here.

Trouble is, ‘Good Old Arsenal’ is gut-wrenchingly banal. It is about as jolly-hockey-sticks as ‘Play Up Pompey, Pompey Play Up’. It came to life when Jimmy Hill tried to start a competition to find a song for Arsenal and he threw that into the pot as a starter. Nobody else entered the competition and so we got stuck with that. It is awful!

We need something with good musicality e.g.  Rod Stewart’s ‘We are Sailing’ or Monty P’s ‘Always Look on the Bright Side of Life’, that will get people joining in. I am sure we have some talent among our supporters to put some words to the music.

Aj…you are so right. Ive hated that ridiculous Jimmy Hill song ever since he produced it. We have stars of stage and screen as fans who surely can produce somthing to rival the Liverpool and Spuds song?  Try singing ‘We are Arsenal, We are Arsenal, once agaaaainn at the top…..to we are sailing!  Or use ‘Hey Jude’   ending to give the lads a lift.  La,La La  lala la la…lala la la  Arsenal!   its easy realy!

We need an anthem not a song, all these european sides have great anthems or their club and in 125 years of history we have ‘Good Old Arsenal’

If Clock End changes are made then seating should be allocated to passionate gooners not those with pockets loaded with coin.  The model for me are the traveling gooners who seem to show at away games the type of passion I want to see on the tele!!!!  And there in lies the rub.  At too many matches the “picture” is of the opposing fans at our ground!!!! Singing and cheering on their side. You’d think it was their home ground not ours!  Our seating model is outdated and must change.

Goonamerica, I go to 95% of away games and it is the same there. We are the ones who do all the singing. The home crowds are quiet there too. Yet no one seems to pick up on this.

sulking, absolutely farcical refereeing decisions over the weekend, even rang my Dad Monday night after watching Chelsea V City and asked him if it is worth it anymore ? Silva the most blatant penalty you will see all season not given, Cahill told to put his boot on yet Messi scores a champ league winner with it in his hand, and as for our game just ridiculous, 3 yards onside and leaves you wondering what the point of travelling is…no doubt gave you boys a good laugh and I don’t blame you I would if it was the other way around, but it is bloody wrong ..I hate Redknapp with a passion but glad he has come out in the paper today slaughtering refs, Wenger, Fergie and Mourinho done it enough over the years, it is the only way to get into the untouchable gang and get all the decisions go your way..I note you boys were all quiet too, can’t survive without me the heartbeat of the forum can it ! ha ha..I was not that fussed about losing Stoke I said on here all along it was a potential slip up, I was rather banking on City rolling you lot over but they look to have dropped a few notches, so fingers crossed you get a stuffing and normal service is resumed and the gap back to normal again.

As I said to you a couple of weeks ago when you seemed to have all the results forecasted and done deals….the officials cock the dream up. We’re not exclusive but have seen lots of shit decisions go against us and ruin the perfect day. Laugh? Me? You betcha.

You seem to be preparing the ground for a result for us against citeh as more of a drop in their form as opposed to Chavski pressure, no chance, they are well up for it for one thing and we’ll have to do well to get some points but hey, bring it on.
I hope the FA have looked at a few Yaya Toure spiteful incidents not picked up by the ref.

Yaya was a disgrace mate, another example of officials again, how can slap a player around the head and kick them on the floor and get sent off like Kaboul did ? ha ha game is mental and so unpredictable

John, did you see the article in paper about Stokes pitch? They have marked out 2 pitches as the Europa League and PL have different minimum sizes.

No M147,  I hadn’t seen that, seems strange though, I thought that the laws of the game were pretty much universal.  Still the smaller pitch worked in Stoke’s favour against the team that dare not speak it’s name, so I’ve got no real gripe with them.

Great idea to put the away fans up in the upper tier,we need the home fans behind our goals roaring on our team, not away fans getting vocal, also upper tier seats are more expensive and the aways should be charged more, just elevator them in and out directly and their should not be any problems, the club really have to crank up the atmosphere.
