Arsenal cake? Let them eat crumbs, Arsene

“I wonder what Wenger will blame this time?” Those were the words of a clearly delighted Fulham fan to his mate on the bus to Clapham Junction after the late winner denied us at Craven Cottage last night.

After all,it struck me that, despite Djourou’s sending off we were, to use a Wenger word, inefficient in front of goal in the first half and then went to sleep at the death when Zamora hit the winner.

Our squad is clearly not big enough to cope with injuries and suspensions and he should address this now that the window is open. But, of course, he won’t. But I really didn’t expect our manager to come out and blame the referee – even if he was culpable in our collapse.

When will he learn that it just adds fuel to the fire. Matey, the Fulham bloke, I mentioned, wasn’t revelling in the Cottagers’ triumph, he was desperate to hear Wenger’s post-match moan. Sometimes you need to take it on the chin. Publicly acknowledge that we were beaten. Do your seething in private.

In contrast to Wenger, we have Mick McCarthy. Now I am not saying the Wolves manager could teach AW anything about being a football manager. Rather, though, I feel he could teach him something out managing publicity.

Wolves lost 2-1 to Chelsea and the late winner was scored by Frank Lampard, a player who shouldn’t have been on the pitch after a shocking tackle which merited a red card but brought only a yellow from the ref.

Quizzed about this after the game, McCarthy would have been well within his rights to bleat about it and blame the defeat on the official’s weak handling of the incident. But he didn’t. He did say that if it was a red then that is the colour of the card that should have been branded and also commented on Lampard having a decent rep as a pro. In short he skipped over it and the message was, ‘It’s gone we can’t do anything about it now.’

Neil Warnock did the same thing when asked about the Joey Barton red card in QPR’s 2-1 defeat at home toNorwich (which does make a change for him but surely he has policed himself after his delusional comments about RVP in our win over Rangers).

All the media picked up on AW’s anger and now all we are going to get is imbeciles such as Adrian Durham on Talksport picking up on his comments and poking fun at our weaknesses and the chinks in his armour.

However measured your argument, it is never going to get you anywhere and AW must learn to be more of a diplomat and save his anger for the players who failed to take their chances and who switched off their concentration at the end. Granted he has just seen a gutting late goal shove us from the top four. Yes, he is a passionate man and I can’t question his commitment to our beloved club.

But he is also very, very clever and I just can’t get my head round why, when asked about contentious decisions, he doesn’t just accentuate any positives, enforce his agenda and leave the enquiring media with crumbs rather than a cake.

Spot on but this is a Wenger trying to swim with his hands tied by the board, god only knows the frustration he is feeling and I think we can all point to a job where we have given out the managers a bit of cake rather than crumbs, and let our guard down, only Arsene knows how it feels to build a squad of players and be told that they are leaving and no pay rise, only Arsene knows what it feels like to be viewed as a miracle man so you will surely cope with no funds Arsene, yes he has made a rod for his own back in many ways but his frustrations are there for all to see..he is on the last few yards of the road to the finale..he deserves to walk it with some pride..it is clear there is a new radical change on it’s way at ‘The Emirates’ or they would have given their greatest ever manager a help in hand..

AW is the one preaching about living within our means and he is the one who pays squad players 50k a week even they are just that, squad players. This is nothing to do with the board. Wh would he take all he flak for the board, year after year?? Sorry, doesn’t add up. AW is not working with his hands tied. He is working how he wants to work and believes things should work. Yes he is old school and yes he is probably a dreamer, but we have had unbelievable success under him and seen some of the best football ever played outside of Barcelona.

I get fed up when he gives the press the bait and also Talk Wank and that ginger bell end Durham. But i feel more embarrassed about the Arsenal fans who phone up. Listen to 5 live instead….

Wenger has stuck to his principles from day one.  Developing young talented players and turning them into world class footballers.  Of course there have been financial constraints which have resulted in the loss of some players whose greed has been fed by the overly rich pickings available at some other clubs.

Against that background Arsenal FC have built a state of the art Stadium, a training complex that is second to none and is the venue of choice for the England Squad, as well as an academy for the nurturing of future generations.  The club is in a financialy secure position with comfortably managed levels of debt.

Should Wenger decide to strengthen his squad funds will be made available.  He will certainly not have to go begging for strikers from Man.City whose wages have to be subsidised by the donor club.  That, by the way, is financial doping.

It is worth remembering that whilst working under the financial restraints Wenger has brought, in his time at the club, more trophies than our London so called rivals have won in their entire history.

Wenger will leave one day, but it will be on his terms and will not be in order to spend time at Her Majesty’s pleasure.

sound a bit bitter to me, instead he signs Benayoun a cast off of a cast off..yeah great management, and you reckon funds are available ? and let’s be honest if Arsenal were a major club anymore Adebayor would still be there

Durham just does that to get people biting and ringing in no different to you and me getting a nibble from each other, I do take your point about Wenger and he is undeniably stubborn, but surely you don’t go from signing players like he has to getting freebies and pinching Chelsea bench warmers..something doesn’t stack up !

Probably because he was as pissed off as we all were, he saw another inept performance from a ref compound a game where we defended well but failed to take our chances; all things being equal we would have been sitting here with 3 points imo and that’s incredibly frustrating. Think of it as being like Wengers comments that Shawcross should be banned for as long as Rambo was crocked just to make it a little fairer, it was made in the heart of the moment and didn’t have ANY intellectual weight behind it at all, not going to stop morons having a laugh but easily understandable and forgivable.

Also, Mashman, I’m sure you’ve heard all the reasons why we pay younger players bigger money in order to compete, it’s the only way we can even think about getting to a point whereby we can win a title so it’s worth remembering that.

I think Wenger is correct in what he says.
The premier league is corrupt, there are far too many mistakes made by referees against Arsenal to be a coincidence.Of the 27 wrong decisions made by the ref only 4 were in Arsenals favour. There was no protection for Arsenal players and the referee was very reluctant to book anyone apart from Arsenal players.I would like to say this is a one off but this happens in 6 out of 7 games.for proof of this please take a look at the untold arsenal website which has in depth ref previews and reviews before and after each game.
There is no interest in the mainstream media to publicise that the great british game is fixed but if it can happen in Italy and lots of other countries dont be surprised that it is happening here.

Yes the premier league and FA are corrupt but jesus you have some front moaning about it, we the entire footballing nation have sat back and watched an incompetent kid go to a world cup, and in truth he is still shit today, we have watched David Dein pull every string in the book on the FA whilst he was in power and you have the cheek to moan, sod off it was fine whilst it favoured you though wasn’t it, talk about take the piss, who else got walcott to a world cup when he was 10 ? who else got you lot off of all the man united fights and scraps, Vierias red cards every other week, DAVID DEIN , funny how the club has gone backwards since he went…perhaps it is now being run fairly and within the laws of the game..bent fuckers !

I for one agree with Eldo 71. As much as it sickens me when Arsenal is not playing well, the manager (Arsene Wenger) makes me wanna vomit! He always has somebody else to blame but himself. When he wins the game was fair whenever he looses the ref, the wheather or life is to blame. I just wish we could learn to loose gracefully like other teams. Mr. Wenger has brought this on himself good people! Have you ever seen a man so stubborn that continues to make the same dreadful mistakes game after game! Walcott is not performing and continues to play him. Aaron Ramsey is supposed to be the midfield general, this boy is just not ready. Squilachi, Djourou, Abu Diabi, Manuel Almunia and the lazy Russian andre  Arshavin are still Arsenal players, How? How people are these players still part of our squad. I believe Mr Arsene Wenger has reached the end of the road as Arsenal FC manager. In the last 5 years he has aged so much because he is stressed. Do the right thing Mr Wenger either improve the team or Bow out Sir. We would respect you if you did.
