Frustration is boiling over at the Emirates

Frustration is boiling over at the Emirates- an underperforming squad has started 2012 in a well documented poor fashion.

Sadly the return of the King Thierry Henry has been tarnished by some mindless fans at Swansea on Sunday aggravating the Frenchman.

The Gunners have now lost two league games on the bounce and languish well behind their title rivals and crucially are four points behind Chelsea in forth.

Even Arsene Wenger himself, who usually vehemently defends his squad, expressed his frustration on Sunday at his side’s lapses in concentration.

The defeat to Swansea highlighted Arsenal’s frailty, lack of composure and underperforming squad.

Arsenal look scared at the back and lack a leader, Thomas Vermaelen is superb but frequently injured. In Wenger’s defence all his fullbacks are currently out injured and a seasoned international in Per Mertesacker has been shambolic.

Without an intimidating, solid backline in the mould of Tony Adams, Martin Keown and Sol Campbell etc, the Gunners can’t build the foundations for winning trophies.

The vulnerability of Arsenal’s defence has been a frustrating feature for the past four seasons and is bamboozling why Wenger hasn’t solved the problem with some astute signings.

Gary Cahill has obviously signed for Chelsea – a signing Wenger could and should have done back in the summer. £7 million is an absolute steal for Chelsea and could end up shutting the door on Arsenal’s European aspirations.

Defensive reinforcements are a necessity but also some composure in the final third will be crucial if Arsenal are going to recover lost ground on their rivals.

Henry has returned, Van Persie continues to dazzle but the rest have to step up to the plate. Wenger’s insistence on starting with Andrey Arshavin is bizarre, the Russian is failing to provide for his team in terms of goals and effort.

Furthermore Alex Oxade-Chamberlain isn’t getting game time. He’s more direct than Walcott and has an accurate distribution off the flanks. He is lively, full of energy and is keen to impress.

Whether he starts or not, the youngster needs to be involved far more whilst Wenger needs to freshen up the squad with signings and rotations.

There are reasons to be positive and with a fully fit first 11 we have the foundations for success this campaign.

Szczeny, Vermaelen, Ramsey, Wilshere and Van Persie would walk into most teams but it’s their colleagues who must repay Wenger’s incredible faith in his players. Wilshere’s return in February will be like a new signing with a crunch tie with AC Milan approaching fast.

The season is only half way through but the tide needs to turn quickly in a crucial period of fixtures, especially with a resurgent Man United at the Emirates on Sunday.

Anybody settle for a point on Sunday?

Yes, but unlike other comments recently a ManUre win is not a cert, obviously based on some of our recent performances and lack of cover it’s going to need to be an extreme effort on our part and perhaps this has been the problem. Some of ours seem to canter around at 3/4 pace when attempting to chase after an opponent with ball whereas our lads get chased and harrassed until we concede the possession. Wenger needs to get tough.

To be brutally honest, Berg10, can you see Djourou and Miquel coping with Nani and Valencia?  Even if Vermaelen is fit and plays at left-back, it still leaves the hapless Djourou facing a mammoth run around.

Ramsey is going to have to play a lot better than he has in recent games and I don’t think Arshavin is capable of providing cover for whoever plays at left-back.

Maybe I’m just depressed by Sunday’s debacle but at the moment I can’t see us getting revenge for the disaster at Old Trafford.

True JiN, but I have to believe there’s a chance, who knows maybe some utd stars will have an off day and Ramsey is due a good game as recent performances have been woeful. I’d like to see
AOC start but this game is too tough for AW to take that sort of risk. As I said, we’re going to have to see an extreme effort to get a result. Here’s hoping!

This is the worst Arsenal team I can ever remember.  There are so many weaknesses in it, it’s depressing to even think about it.  How many of that lot who played on Sunday would get in the Swansea team never mind theMan U, Man City or Spurs of this world?  What worries me is what happens when we haven’t qualified for Champions League next season – because we are not going to be near that top four come May.  Where does Wenger go from there?  What players will want to come to the Arsenal then?  To be on honest I cant even see us qualifying for the Europa League, we’re that bad!  We’ve been unlucky with injuries but to be honest the cover that we have for those positions are truly awful anyway.  It’s a really poor squad that Wenger’s built there and yes, he is to blame for that.  I’ve sat through some crap this season and I’ve really had enough.  It’s got to the stage where I really couldn’t give a toss how many Man U beat us by on Sunday.  Just sick of watching a poor team filled with dross getting the crap beat out of them and then having to listen to Wenger moaning on about the ref, the opposition diving, the pitch or low flying UFO’s for the manner of our defeat.  Look in the mirror mate then you might just see the reason for the demise of Arsenal.

OK!  Sack him today.  Who do you replace him with?  Before you come out with a list of the usual suspects just take a moment to think clearly.

I disagree regarding Mertesacker and Ramsey. Ramsey has been awful. He gave the game away at Swansea. Mertesacker is quite solid, but a little slow. I can’t see Ramsey starting when Wilshire is back. We clearly missed Arteta at Swansea.

The Graham team that finished 12th also won 2 titles, 2 domestic cups and a European trophy in the 5 previous seasons.Once it was reinforced with ambitious signings like Bergkamp and Platt in the Rioch season that very same team also provided the foundation for Wenger’s title winning teams. All in all I’d say that compares favourably with the last seven years, and by the looks of things the next seven as well.
