So Arsene Wenger will make a signing in the January transfer window after all – although it is hardly likely to get moaning fans off his back anytime soon.
For we hear that Borussia Dortmund academy midfielder Thomas Eisfeld is set to join Arsenal pending a successful medical examination. Reports from Germany say Eisfeld and agent Reza Fazeli are in London and the 19-year-old is expected to join up with the Gunners academy when he signs up for the club.
Eisfeld is a right-footed playmaker who has scored six goals in 12 games for Borussia’s under-19 side so far this season. However, his contract with the club expires at the end of this season and Arsenal are likely to have to pay a compensation fee to the German champions of around 500,000 euro.
Meanwhile, Arsenal CEO has admitted that AW doesn’t have a job for life at Arsenal. Quizzed on Fox Sports in the US, Gazidis said, when asked if the manager HAD to win a trophy this season and if he didn”t might it be time to consider the “job for life” line: “Well, nobody has a job for life! And of course our objective is always to win trophies, and it is this year as it has been before. We’re in three competitions this year. You know, Manchester City would love to be in three competitions.
“They’re not. You know, so, money is not, is not everything in this game. I don’t disagree that it’s important. But we do things based on a value system. We’re about creating star players, not about buying them. We’re about what happens in a team, between players, not individual superstars. And I think that’s an inspiration to people around the world.”
