Wenger linked with Arsenal bid for Schalke star Holtby

Arsene Wenger is being linked with a move to take Schalke midfielder Lewis Holtby to Arsenal. And there are even some suggestions that a deal has already been done for the German-born 21-year-old to join the Gunners in the summer. His contract in Germany ends next year.

A source with close ties to Arsenal has told Arsenalinsider that the transfer has already been agreed for the midfielder, whose Scouse father is a former Brit soldier based in Germany. Both are said to be ardent Everton fans.

Holtby has captained the German U21 side and has played for the full international side so isn’t eligable for the England team.

Everton manager David Moyes was said to be considering a January loan move for Holtby – but at the time of the enquiry he was on loan with Main 05 and has since returned to his parent club.

He had also been linked with a permanent move to Goodison last summer but a lack of money in the Everton coffers meant interest faded.

Now, if what we are being told is true, he could be on his way to the Emirates.

I am not saying this is gospel but merely handing over the info for theose immersed in the Arsenal to peruse and consider.

Without saying another word, we now know the Wenger’s thinking and the future model of the club!

Having looked at the spendings on players over the past two seasons we have a vision of the club. Don’t expect any superstars and think long term not simply the end of the season.

Arsenal fans might as well stop the mourning, the trophy cabinet will remain empty for a few seasons, unless the current squad could raise their game and stay injury free!

What do you get by buying “superstars”, players that wont get off the bench (Tevez) players who cost £50 million and can’t score a goal to save their lives (Torres)  or £35 million and ditto (Carroll), players with egos that outstrip their ability by a factor of 50 (Adebayor) or players who are just greedy and will tout themselves around to the highest bidder (Na£ri).

Accept it, Arsenal will never pay inflated transfer fees or astronomical wages.  Likewise they are unlikely ever to go into administration or be penalised for breaching Financial fair Play rules.

at the moment I can see teams like Chelsea and City having real problems in 2 years. They may well win the league but be banned from european competition on ffp rules. They have players on huge contracts to run past 2015, how do they plan to up their revenues? This is as good as it gets for them.

Dempsey would be a good signing. Is he better then a lot of the current players, yes, would he add goal to the squad, yes. Hazzard will not be available until the summer. Miguel needs to be moved out on loan to Swansea or Bolton to gain Premier League experience. Why, has no one put a bid in for Llorente Torres? Scores goals, not ridiculously expensive and is not cup tied for the Champions League.

this summer’s transfer period would be the perfect time to pick up one of these players who are showing promise, performing and going somewhat under the radar. lucas, hazard, gotze and erikson talks will be dominating the market for the teams with bigger wallets than arsenal and these sorts of players will not attract that sort of interest and therefore go for a much more affordable price. i would be much more happy if arsenal brought in multiple players and cover multiple positions. belhanda and holtby could both provide creativity and spark in the middle which is could be a welcome addition. we also need a defensively minded midfielder. song, as good a midfielder as he is is not purely defensively minded. m’vila or vertonghen would be a perfect addition as he would provide an extremely solid defensive option which would free the other two midfield spots to be more creative. this kind of signing should be a higher priority because it will ease two problems, defensive stability and ease the defensive burden on the other two midfield spots.
