Wenger Targets Invincibility for Rest of Season

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has urged his players to get their ailing domestic campaign back on track by recapturing the spirit of their famous invincible side of the 2003-04 season.

On Wednesday, Arsenal played out a 0-0 draw with Bolton Wanderers at the Reebok Stadium and although they finally managed to end their point drought after three consecutive defeats, it wasn’t a source of joy for the Gunners as they now find themselves at seventh position on the league table, behind the likes of Newcastle United and Liverpool.

But while Arsenal have been surpassed by two more team, the gap between them and fourth-placed Chelsea is of only five points, which means that they are still very much in contention for the final Champions League spot.

The Gunners are now scheduled to play relegation battlers Blackburn Rovers at Emirates Stadium tomorrow afternoon and a win in their own backyard could elevate them back to fifth position, even if only temporarily, as both Liverpool and Newcastle don’t play their respective league games until Sunday and Monday respectively.

Wenger’s men have already tasted eight league defeats this season and the Frenchman has confessed that they cannot afford to make any more mistakes now.

“Ideally you want to be unbeaten. Is it possible? I think to prove that it is possible is just to win on Saturday. For the rest, I believe that we have played some great football this season and we have to continue to improve the way we play and focus on that. Football has to be a happy moment that you want to share with people who come to the game. We always try to behave like that,” Wenger said.

Some Arsenal fans, who are disappointed at Wenger’s handling of the club, have said that they will place black bin liners on top of any vacant seat on Saturday, in order to prove that matchday attendance has started to fall down due to the poor results of their beloved club.

As the graph of their performances has gone south, the amount of criticism being hurled at Wenger has increased significantly. But the 62-year old coach is adamant that they can still achieve their targets if his troops distance themselves from all the negativity and give their undivided attention to the club’s main cause of winning on the footballing field.

Steven Kean, the manager of their next opponents Blackburn, has also been criticised by the fans of his own club this season, and Wenger believes that football supporters in general have developed a taste for drama.

“It is not easy anywhere nowadays, but with the media and the opinions of everybody we live in a constant drama. But it is not like that. Football is a happy moment where people come together to watch the team they love.”

“We have to stop to make a drama of everything but there are much more dreadful things in life than that. We have to keep focused on the fact that we have a fantastic opportunity to play football and we want to focus on that with happy minds, not always to be in a drama.”

“I am here to make all of the fans happy and when I do not manage to do it I am, of course, not happy. What is most important is that we have our fans happy at the end of the season. I know that it is always a depressed job to judge, the immediate situation, but we have a longer target – to go until May with a determined attitude with belief. That is what we want to achieve.”

“Overall I feel this team is strong mentally with a good spirit and attitude. We are ready for a fight and that is the most important thing.”

Wenger is a bloody joke….Why is this man still in a job baffles me. Tactically inept and unable to motivate his players. Did Wenger motivate his players in the 3-2 fluke over Villa ? No it was RVP. Kroenke and Wenger OUT !!!!!!!!!

Yes RvP did motivate his players, part of his job really but do you know for sure Wenger didn’t play a part ni the fight back? And fluke? F*ck me, you’d be the first to moan if we didn’t get the 2 stonewall pens and as for walcott he did excellent taking the ball around the defence and being in the right place for the rebound as well as putting that ex spud chump under pressure.

Credit where it’s due mate eh?

That result was down to pressure from our players, something that’s lacking in the team but as Jenny points out take into account the circumstances affecting our line ups.

    In Arsene weeeee TRUST!!!!!

We are lucky to have Arsene Leon.. Real Madrid would take him today but Arsene is loyal and we shud stay loyal with the great man.
Injuries and bad luck have cost us dearly this season and that took a bit of confidense out of the players.. But fear not as Arsene say’s our mental strength will pull us through and we will all see the real Arsenal from now on starting with the thrashing of Blackburn!

Our great manager??? Oh dear. Will the last person out of the Emirates please turn off the lights. Oh, and could some kind soul find a straight jacket for Jenny, she really is starting to lose the plot. Yes Arsenal should beat Blackburn today. In fact, I expect them to. But would anybody be surprised if they managed to nick a point or possibly all three. As for Real Madrid: given the lack of success that Wenger’s served up these last six years do you seriously believe that an ambitious club like Madrid would want Wenger? Can’t see it myself. There’s far better managers out there. And how many years would a club like Real Madrid tolerate such a lack of success as Wenger’s? Cerainly not six years. Wenger knows this, why should he quit Arsenal when he can draw six million quid a year for failing year in year out? Come to think of it, could he be running RBS?
    Arise Sir Arsen!!!!!

Look, I’m the first to criticize but I am first and foremost an Arsenal man.  I have been for more years than I care to remember, I’ve seen the good times and the bad times and I’ve never stopped supporting my team.  My opinion of Wenger has not changed, I really believe that he’s had his day, that said I’m absolutely delighted with this 7-1 victory.  So well done, boys…well done.

Great result Jenny – credit where credit is due.  I know you want me to stay that evrything is back to the brilliance of 2004 (I was there for every game, by the way – home and away.  Does that make me a true fan, I wonder?) but I’m afraid it doesn’t.  I still think Wenger has lost the plot but, as I said, credit where credit is due.  Well done boys.  Well done.

@Vlad. Obviously everything isn’t back to the glory days of 04 but it’s a start. Wenger does make some weird calls but let’s hope he deals with them in his own way, he certainly won’t publicise his views and as I’ve yet to see the game I can’t comment on the state of play but I hope we pressed them hard when not in possession and this was reflected in the dominance, that is our weakness that I want him to address.

Good Result Today. Keep it up lads. Build some confidence, some difficult games ahead. Great to the Ox show Walcott how it should be done. I just wouldnt be so confident just because we trashed a sub standard team.

RT @TheArsenalFeed: Walcott sits third in the assists chart with 7. Tied with van Persie, Mata, Bale, Nani, Giggs and Nasri.
