Interest High In Arsenal Target Dragovic

FC Basel defender Aleksandar Dragovic has claimed that a number of big European clubs, including Arsenal FC, Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund and Olympique de Marseille want to sign him in the summer transfer window.

In a recent interview with Kurier, the Austrian international said: “On the names of the clubs there is some truth. With the exception of Barcelona. There are seven teams interested, two of which are from Russia. They would be very financially lucrative, but I am not looking for the most money.

“My contract runs until 2015, so if a club wants me, they’ll have to put a bit of money on the table. Also I feel very comfortable here and in 18 months here I have developed twice as much as I could have done in Austria. The club must at least be represented in the Europa League. For with Basel I have the chance to play in the Champions League.”

According to some unconfirmed reports, the Gunners’ scouts have been keeping a close eye on Dragovic and their manager Arsene Wenger is seriously considering the idea of submitting a bid for the 21-year-old centre-back.

Arsenal Submit £7 Million Bid For Vertonghen

According to Metro’s website, Arsenal are quite close to agreeing a £7 million transfer fees with Ajax for their skipper Jan Vertonghen.

The North Londoners have already wrapped up the signing of German international Lukas Podolski and are now planning to secure another one before the end of the 2011/12 season. Several other Premier League clubs are interested in acquiring Vertonghen’s services but Arsenal are the first one to submit an actual transfer bid for the Belgian international.

Thomas Vermaelen, who shares defensive responsibilities with Vertonghen at international level, has urged the Gunners to sign the Ajax talisman. He is also highly recommended by Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp, who is now an assistant coach at Ajax.

Gunners to Face Competition in Belhanda Chase

The Daily Mail have reported that Arsenal will now be facing more competition in their bid to sign Montpellier’s Moroccan winger Younes Belhanda.

Apparently, Liverpool have also decided to chase the signature of the player in question, who has been dubbed the new Robert Pires by Montpellier coach Rene Girard. In addition to the Gunners and the Reds, French giants Paris Saint-Germain are also rumoured to be interested in Belhanda.

Arsenal Target M’Vila in Trouble with the Law

Rennes’ highly-rated defensive midfielder Yann M’Vila has been released from police custody after spending a night behind bars. The French international, who is a summer transfer target of Arsenal, has been accused of assaulting a teenage boy at his home on Monday. He has been released for the time being but a thorough investigation is expected to take place in the next few days.

M’Vila’s attorney Thierry Fillion told L’Equipe: “Yann has acknowledged that it was an inappropriate response but provoked by the betrayal of the trust he gave to this young man. As it stands, no decision has been taken yet by the Rennes prosecutor on this case but the file will be forwarded to him within eight to 10 days.”

It isn’t the first time M’Vila has been in the headlines for the wrong reasons. In January 2010, it was alleged that the 22-year-old Frenchman hit a restaurant owner after being involved in a car accident.
