Peter Hill-Wood has dismissed Joey Barton’s admission that he could have joined Arsenal had it not been for his clash with Gervinho on the first day of the season.
QPR midfielder Barton was linked with a shock to the Gunners during the summer and revealed he spoke to Arsene Wenger about a possible move. But Arsenal chairman Hill-Wood says he knew nothing of any talks.
He told the Metro; “It’s not something the board heard about and if it was a serious proposition I certainly would have expected us to.”
Meanwhile, the Mirror says Bolton boss Owen Coyle has warned Arsenal they will have rival bidders for defender Gary Cahill when the January transfer window opens – with Chelsea also being linked with a move for the England centre-back.
Yet the Mail claims Inter Milan are ready to join the race to sign Cahill and “pile even more frustration on suffering Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger”.
The Sun reports that AW is on the trail of Guinea star Sadio Diallo, with scout Gilles Grimandi sent to check on Bastia’s attacking midfielder this week.
in the Telegraph, RVP looks forward to Bolton. He said: “It is important that we stay positive – that can be hard because everyone is frustrated and we realise that this is our worst start in the league for a while, but we have to stay together, be strong and make sure not to hide or become introverted.
“We must not go into our shell. We should be proud of who we are and aware that we are only five games in with so much still to play for.”
The Star claims God is on his way back to coach at Arsenal but the paper uses quotes made by DB10 two years ago on which to base their story. So not then.
