Jamie Carragher wrote on his column on Sky Sports about Mesut Ozil’s lack of game time recently. The German started his first game for the Gunners in over a month against Liverpool and looked as lively as ever.

Emery has frozen out the former Real Madrid man but after last night’s performance, he has very little excuse to not stick by him in the coming games. Carragher, who has been critical of Ozil in the past, came to the German’s defence and urged the Arsenal boss to play him regularly.

“I said before the game that Ozil should run the game, he’s a World Cup winner playing against younger players. He was really good and his role in both goals was fantastic, he showed his class and composure,” he said.

Carragher continued: “I’m not Ozil’s biggest fan but you cannot tell me he is not good enough to get into this Arsenal team. This isn’t a great Arsenal team. The criticism with Ozil is whether he can take Arsenal to the Premier League title or the Champions League, but at the moment they are trying to get into the top four so he has to be in their team or best XI.”

Emery has received a ton of backlash from the fans for sidelining Ozil and rightly so. The Arsenal boss claimed after the game that it was pre-planned to withdraw the German after the hour mark which is baffling considering that he hasn’t featured in a long time.

After his performance last night, dropping Ozil again would be a massive blunder on Emery’s part, something he cannot afford to do with his job on the line. Arsenal’s attack just ticks with the German on the pitch and with him feeding Aubameyang, Lacazette and Pepe, Gunners fans can expect a ton of goals in the coming games.
