Farewell, Sol...who's next though the Emirates doors?

by CARL ELDRIDGE So, farewell then, Sol...for the second time. The man who broke the hearts of the despicable fans of the team that dare not speak its name is seemingly signing for the Toon later today on a one-year deal worth £35,000 a week. No doubt his friendship with Newcastle puppet Chris Hughton stretching back to the their time together at Shite Hart Lane has an influence on this decision. AW appeared to have left the door open for Sol to stay another season and given that we lost both Mikael Silvestre and Bill G, it would have made sense to keep him to my mind.

Unless, that is, AW has another central defensive signing up his sleeve. And if he has, could he kindly shake his arm and reveal Gary Cahill, Phil Jagielka, Per Mertesacker or indeed any other suitable servant from his cuff. The master plan was to use Johan Djourou as cover for Tommy. V and Laurent Koscielny but this still leaves us short and, given injuries - as Johan suffered last night in the 4-0 win over some Austrian mob - we clearly do not have enough cover.

The friendly win over SC Neusiedi was the last game of the pre-season tour of Austria and now the rip-roaring Reds head back to Blighty for the Emirates Cup this weekend - although you can catch a glimpse of a young Gunners side tonight in a reserve friendly at Dagenham & Redbridge.

Goals from Theo Walcott, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, Marouane Chamakh and Carlos Vela secured the easiest of wins, expect AC Milan and Celtic to provide tougher tests for God's own.

In other news, reports today suggest Italy keeper Marchetti could interest AW. The Cagliari keeper, 27, played all three of Italy's World Cup matches after replacing the injured Gianluigi Buffon during their first game with Paraguay. Cagliari have put him up for sale but have recently turned down a bid from Juventus. Cagliari president Massimo Cellino is reported to have said: "The only real club that is pushing for his signature is Arsenal."

With Arsenal returning from their Austrian pre-season warm-up, now is the time for Wenger and Gazidis to sort out the Fabregas issue once and for all, well untill next summer at least.

Is he going? is he staying? are the Gunners going to hold him to his, very lucrative, five year contract?

Please please JUST DO IT!!!

As far as they see it there is nothing to sort out. Wenger alluded to the "noise" from barcelona and he's right. There really is nothing to comment on. Barca made one bid, Arsenal rejected it. That really is the end of the story because Barca players talking to the media has no effect on arsenal's position and nor does any random and made up reports.

I think Arsene has made it clear on several occassions that he isn't for sale and just because he doesn't keep reminding us every day of the week it doesn't mean that anything has changed.

£35,000 a year....that would be good as they would then have to work like the rest of us!

Seriously though, we need a good centre back now desperately, hopefully two...?

Dear Lord....we need a goalkeeper - I just cannot believe we would start the season with Almunia or Fabianski...it would all be over for us before we started!

I am trying to be upbeat and not negative....

But with a good goalkeeper, two good defenders we can really challenge this year!
Last year the injuries finished us off, only Song and Fabregas played well. With everyone fit and playing to their ability we will be fine!

If we do not buy then I fear for us - maybe financially we really are in trouble as there can be no other explanation?

The Sun? I have never read the rag!

I must have dreamt that Barcelona made a £30 million offer, that their president publicly stated their desire to sign him, that their coach publicly stated his wish to have him in his squad and that multiple members of the Barcelona playing staff have repeatedly publicly stated their wish for him to join them. It is all make believe conjured up by The Sun.

Next out through the Emriates doors should be Wenger. How we can be so short of central defenders, at least one decent goalkeeper, and replacements for the Denaby duo with just over 2 weeks to go to the start of the eason is scandalous. We won't see any new signings until January. Even though of course we can still compete with CFC in the transfer market.

Unfortunately, the very clear message CESC FABREGAS IS NOT FOR SALE NO NEGOCIATION translates into Spanish as "please tap up our Captain on a daily basis". UEFA/FIFA are complicit in this rubbish. However if the roles were reversed and The Mighty Arsenal behaved in a similiar manner, we would instantly be censured fined and banned from the Chapions League. Utter disgrace. However, the end result is WE GOT CESC FABREGAS, barca are skint, officially, and this great Club will NEVER deal directly with the catalans again.

Fabregas is not helping quelling the rumors...not until he sees Wenger show some ambition of going for higher than 4th placing in the League.

He is on holiday. what do you want him to do. go looking for a journalist on his holiday? When he comes back to Arsenal he will speak to the press in some way or another. Although it was Fabregas who started all this with his silly press conference which has really backfired on him seeing as Barca can't afford him.

John in Norfolk -
1. Fabregas is happy to stay for another year and Arsenal arent prepared to enter into ANY kind of negotiations regarding the sale of the player anyway.
2. This wont stop the tabloid press and Sky Sports milking the story (if you can call it that), because they are aware that some naive readers will give it credit.
3. As Arsene Wenger, Peter Hill Wood and now (most importantly) myself have confirmed. This matter is closed... Dead... capput... end off... hes not going... can anyone else help him understand ??!?!

Big deal. What's the point in keeping him for a year? we'll get less money so sell him now. It's not like we've gone out and bought world class players to play alongside him is it. So yet again he's got to play with rubbish and carry them through.

To John in Norfolk.
You said 'we'. You cant seriously consider yourself an Arsenal fan ?!?!?
Do your self a favour John. Start supporting Man City. Because Arsenal arent going to go out and spend hundreds of millions on world class players because we HAVENT GOT THAT SORT OF MONEY. Our aspirations remain at a top four finish but no more, due to the debts from the stadium. You'll just make yourself unhappy supporting Arsenal as you are not a true fan. Go and get yourself a Man City top and for gods sake f@&k off.

Firstly, I assume you're replying to me.

Secondly we've got plenty of money, we just use it to repay he loan as quickly as possible. Some think that's good. I think we should invest some of it in the team. And I'm not the only one by a long way.

Thirdly, don't assume that you're a fan and I'm not just because we different opinions. Chances are, that based on your childish comments, I've been going to watch us play long before you were born.
