Arsenal to be cautious with signings

Here we are in the January transfer window, and we are all excited over the new stars that will be coming to the Emirates.

Arsenal to be cautious with signing’s

There is talk of this one, and talk of that one. Yet behind all the hype in the press you have Wenger telling us what I am afraid is going to be a very big disappointment for us all, and that is they do not want to spend any money with this financial crisis going to only get worse. This is what Arsene Wenger had to say about the January transfer window.

[I am expecting a] quiet [market]. Europe is depressed and there is not a lot of money available, only some clubs who have exceptional resources. Let’s say that clubs who are not linked with the economic environment at the moment can buy

Of course we all know he is talking about Manchester City, and Paris St. Germain.

So there you have it, does that sound like someone who wants to go out and spend recklessly? Especially if you look at a few of the past signing’s. The Gunners boss might want to unload some first before bringing on any new cargo.

My favorite quote this week was on Twitter during the Leeds United game. Piers Morgan tweeted.. Nice tribute by Chamakh today – playing like Thierry’s statue. #Arsenal

He is on my list to throw overboard along with Andrei Arshavin I had high hopes for the little Russian when we first signed him but now all the shock, and awe has vanished.

I know there is talk about him leaving this month, and that Zenit St. Petersburg have reportedly offered $10 million for the playmaker.

Unless it is to use the money to buy a player like Lukas Podolski from Cologne,  I might just be tempted to keep him till after the Euro’s where I have a sneaky feeling he is going to be one of the stars of the tournament.

Arshavin has been under a lot of pressure from the critics back home who say he does not want to play for Russia, and that his heart is just not in it. I think the Russian captain would love to prove them all wrong.

Speaking of the Euro’s I think they along with the Olympics in London will be on the minds of many of the international players who do not want to jeopardize their chances of getting into the national team, and might think that a change of clubs right now is not such a good idea.

With all of this talk about austerity, and the possible collapse of the euro, and a war with Iran over their desire to build a Nuclear Bomb , the only team I think you will see throwing money around is Paris St. Germain.  Ancelotti will want to put his mark on the French club, and I would not be surprised to see some of his old Chelsea players joining him in Paris.

As for Arsenal I think we can forget about Podolski, and Eden Hazard joining us, and also dismiss the thought about any big money being spent.

In the managements defense, and on a personal level everyone I know is cutting back on expenses, with worries about companies downsizing , and fears of what lies ahead, none of us are going out and buying new cars, or holiday homes abroad, so why should we expect our football club to do otherwise.

What we are doing is making do with what we have. I actually think that Arsenal are being smart, and agree with Wenger when he said.

“I am convinced that Europe will go into a huge financial crisis within the next three weeks, or three months, and maybe that will put everything into perspective again,” he said yesterday. “Football is not untouchable. We live by people going to the stadiums and from [sponsors] advertising to people who buy products. All our income could be a little bit under threat in the next few months.”

We do however need some support in a few areas, and I would imagine that Arsene Wenger’s main thought right now is to make sure we are playing in the Champions League next season.

To this end I would buy Eric Abidal from Barcelona to bolster our defense, He has done a superb job at Barca this year filling in for the Spanish internationals Puyol, and Pique, who have been out through injuries, and can play in any defensive position.

His experience alone speaks for itself with 60 caps for France, including two World Cup campaigns, and at 32-years-old he still has a few good years of football left.

The other  player that comes to mind is Lyon’s Aly Cisskho another left-back he is younger than Abidal at only 24-years-old, and should we not be able to sign Abaidal could be a good second choice.

We could also talk to Henry, and the Red Bulls about keeping Thierry until the start of the MLS season in March, like AC Milan did with David Beckham, and the LA Galaxy.

I know this is not the news you Gooners want to read, but to rush into the market now would be foolish. Lets ensure we have at least a top four finish, and then let Arsene Wenger see what is available come the summer.

  1. The money should be kept for the new management team as surely Wenger,Primovic,Rice,PHW,Ivan the clown, Stan the yank and the rest off the gutless board will all be resigning after this latest shambles.

  2. @paul mc daid – haha. why should it concern stan and gazidis and the rest of the board when they are making so much money?

  3. this transfer window will see squillaci leave for france and a fullback signed on loan. Nothing more.

Then wilshere, vermaelen, sagna, gervinho, chamakh, santos, gibbs, Jenkinson, diaby etc will be hailed as new signings as they return.

  4. mr. WENGER what do you want above this?

  5. Things that need to happen with immediate effect Buy now Leighton Bains,Hazzard or Goatze Darren Bent. 60 million sell Now Arshavin,Chamak,Bentner,Squalachi,Almunia,Rosiscky,Vela,30 million in
Total spend would be 30 million if champions league qualification is worth 20 million this would be a 10 million outlay.
If no champions league qualification this year then the manager should go as surly this in a minimum standard

  6. the current arsenal team is made up of average players don’t expect a top four finish.wengers era is coming to an end.

What a load of crap from someone who knows nothing about finance. It is now mid january and Arsenal have loaned in (or bought) no fullbacks and we continue to suffer. What has that got to do with a fundamentally flawed Euro which deserves to go tits up ????  What Wenger means is he is terrified of making still more mistakes in the transfer market and he remains over loyal to whoever his current players are. As long as they are brilliant at keepy uppy on the training ground. Meanwhile he does not have the will to ask any of the various highly experienced ex players on the staff about a thing called tactics !!!  Expect to win nothing till the Board (ie, Kroenke) looks like making a loss on his investment. Then he might make changes – if he knows how.

    • 15 years in a row champions league, new stadium enve of the league. a production line of fantastic players. all on less money than sunderland spend. be nice if he was given unlimited finance’s but he has not. we have a morage to pay a 40 man squad to pay, we can not shift any players, this is why we can not sell bentner, denilson, no one wants them on the money there on. thats why we can not sign players. no one in europe or england has money to waste like they did a few years back. every signing is scrutanised. this is what he means by a depressed market. a club like arsenal has a limit to its playing staff, once full we have to sell to buy. no one is buying!!!!

  8. Cautious? Like that has done us good the past 7 years? How about saying ‘Its time to cut out losses on a handful of players who have time and time again proven they are not good enough and take a risk on new players’

  9.   I think Ramsey is our weakest link this season. He is not improving an going from bad to worse with every game, but for some reason Mr Wenger do nott want to see that, because Ramsey is his favourite, gaffer even talking about big improvement in Ramseys game what is total b*****ks.But looking in the past couple off years the same thing was happening with another flop Diaby…Another big problem is tactics-probably only A.Wenger do not understand the system 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 is not working for us second season in a row,he need to change his assistants and bring inn someone with the new ideas and different aproach to the training process

    • boring and ill informed. ramsey will be a great arsenal player. weak links in our team include, beneyon, mertasacker, miquel but he is out of position and young and has little help in front of him. wallcott and gervinhio have not proved good enough this season. we need massive improvements in the squad but in order to do this we need to sell and who would want to buy  failed players, especially on champions league wages some are on. that’s why we could not sell bentner and denilson. about 40 grand a week or more them two are on. plus diaby is a class player just got injured badly. why call him a flop. just one of those things that happens to some players. nothing wrong with the coaching set up that’s just nonsense the squad is just not quite there, but any team who looses wilshire, naris, fabragas, and clithy, all top noch first teamers will struggle. its just hard times. you all need to be gratefull for how our club is run. we could easily be villa or everton. if i was going to make a change it would be to bring back david dean. just cause he was good at getting deals done. think that is what we are missing. a good wheeler dealer.

      • Ramsey was trying too hard today, probably stemming from the hatred between Cardiff and Swansea and tou’re right, the team has been desimated by the three departures and insane injuries, not excuses just plain fact.

        Bring back DD.

      • Ramsey is garbage. And he is being protected just like garbage Denilson and Bendtner before him

        • Ramsey is not garbage, he is just not good enough to carry a club like Arsenal, just not an Arsenal player at all but he is not garbage..

  10. What a shambles again today and, after being dominated by Swansea, what player worth his salt would want to come to the Emirates? RVP will be off as soon as the seasons over and who on earth can blame him? We are a very poor team – nothing more, nothing less. Ok we’ve been unlucky with injuries but even Stevie Wonder could have seen that you’d be lucky to get half a season out of Gibbs – so why not get someone like Baines in during the summer instead of Santos? And who’s bright idea was it to sighn the new Willie Young (MertaSucker)? We are in a mess and only Jesus Christ could stand any chance of breathing any life back into this season. Sixth or seventh I fear is as good as it gets come May.

  11. Why would you want to sell someone that you sneakily suspect is going to be one of the stars of the Euros?

Signings are not always the solution.

  12. Here we go , out come the wenger boo boys who hailed him a messiah last week for bring back Henry, yes Henry the same man who was loved last Monday night but a victim of abuse from his own fans yesterday, some of you still maintain that all is well and you will catch your nth london rivals, you even feel that you will make the champ league, JIN bless him believes a run of 16 games unbeaten is just around the corner and you now find yourselves another point and goal difference behind the yids, so 11 points then with your defensive record, when will you lot make the final step and get the pensioner in the trainers the sack ? youth is the answer one day, then it is getting older players in, Mertesacker is shit, Arteta well not AFC material is he, Djorou, Arshavin, Walcott, Squeelacci, Chamakh, Bendtner, Almunia, Rosicky, Benayoun, all shit and you still believe ? I have one theory and one theory only to be this mad, this silly and this naive you must all be closet spurs fans, because when you saw what I am seeing you said the same to us, good luck in your quest for champ league football or you will lose RVP, that is what you said to us about Berbatov isn’t it?

  14. I am sure by now you have all seen how profitable it is to follow Bigsy and his tips (apart from a freak blip against spain) I have now given you all 7 point profit on the football, at £100 a bet that is £700 for fun, so have a little punt on the 3.25 Wolverhampton today and see if you can all buy yourself some funky wenger trainers, ..Lyric Poet ..some 9/2 about ..so a little £20 will get those wenger beauties from any good sports shops..you may even play it safe with an each way..good luck guys !

  15. Lets drop the pi*s Taking and the banter and discuss the cold hard facts of football, you lost Fabregas and that was no surprise he was going and everyone knew it for 4 years, so why didn’t Wenger replace him ? why hasn’t Arsene Wenger been out and spent money on players to encourage the likes of RVP his future is at the club ? right now Levy is expecting a barrage of offers from all over europe in the summer for Bale and Modric but he is told Luka he is going nowhere and is now looking at Remy to bring in, Wenger should have signed these Demba ba players, these Tiote players, they have all been out there, the man is supposed to be a genius and instead his philosophy is beginning to look more confused by the day, he seldom gives a decent press evaluation of his sides performance and it is never a well structured account of what his team are doing wrong, does he even know ? Arsene has himself to blame, he could have sold these players with a back up plan he had long enough to work on one, as for Nasri I am not sure what to make of him, you ridicule him but use him as an example of losing a star player, is he ? was he ?  the bottom line is wenger has not bought or loaned decent footballers and has not given the star players re assurances quality will be brought in..those are the facts..if we lose Bale or Modric you know damn well Levy will go out and sign someone with the money and not loan a second rate chelsea reject..it stinks and you are all being very very cool about it..i wouldnt be !

    • you are right on target. wenger should not have loaned benayoun, he is chelsea reject. wenger is hoping  for miracles

  16. some good points. wenger will always want to buy cheap and develop players but now were in crisis. if we dont buy some quality this transfer window were not going to make the cl next season. end of!
