Knife in, let twisting begin...

by CARL ELDRIDGE The fallout continues after the defeat at Chelsea on Sunday my fellow Arsenalistas and several Fleet Street hacks are happy to twist the knife already embedded in AW's back yesterday morning. If you are of a weak stomach and even weaker mind look away now.

In the Mirror gobby German Michael Ballack accused AW of always having “excuses" and insisted you do not win titles by playing “nice passes” and having a lot of possession.

He said: “I think he (Wenger) always says this when he loses. When he loses he always finds an excuse. But football is not possession on the ball or playing nice passes.

“Good football is winning games and that’s what we do when we play against them. We deserved the win because we played very effectively. It was how we wanted to play before the game. It was our strategy. Maybe in the second half we concentrated a bit too much on defending but if you’re 2-0 up you can do this.

“For me, good football is a mix of winning, successful football, mental strength, good football technically and also physically. I think we have a good mix in the team and we have done this all season. We can’t do more - first in the table.

“We knew the way they would play. We saw it in the first game we played against them and in the way they played against Man United last week,” said Ballack. It is always the same style. If you get your tactics right like we did I think you can beat them. That’s what we did.”

For more scathing criticism read the Mail's story headlined 'We've heard it all before, Arsene: Arsenal's six years of Premier League heartbreak, despite Wenger's title talk'.

In the Times Matt Dickinson sharpened his pen for this assault on AW, the first few paragraphs of which are here...

Arsène Wenger can never exhaust his levels of credit in English football, but there are an increasing number of occasions, such as in the media room at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, when he seems determined to give it a damn good go.

Great admirers of “The Professor” actually found themselves shaking their heads in sorrow and dismay as they jotted down his latest unsustainable explanation for a damaging Arsenal setback. It was not that Wenger was making excuses for a defeat; every manager has done that since time began.

No, what increasingly distinguishes a Wenger tirade is the moralising tone. And while that was once acceptable, and justifiable, in the occasional outburst at roughhouse methods from Bolton Wanderers or Blackburn Rovers, it has now reached the point where Wenger risks becoming an unpopular parody of himself by preaching from on high.

Back in the Mirror Martin Lipton argues that our recent dip in form and fading title hopes could lead to Cesc Fabregas doing one back to Barca, read his bunkum here.

AW has his say in the Sun: "Our average age is 23 years and Chelsea's is 29 - I think that it showed in the decisive moments on the pitch. I think we were a bit naive on the first corner and then we got caught on the break.

"We have to give everything until the last second of the championship, whatever happens. We can't have any regrets, and if Chelsea are better than us and win the title, or if it's Manchester United, then we will congratulate them along with everyone else.

"But that's not a reason for us to give up. We have to show the dignity of our ambitions and sometimes that means fighting until the end."

Seems as though that fight will be difficult to win...COYG!

What they fail to mention Is Michael ballack is loser in Chelsea with him they tend to lost Major finals and it pure luck her won at Chelsea. In Bayern Munich he was playing for the only team in Bundesliga and In Chelsea he played for mega buck Abromvich.

But Wenger need to zip and accept defeat, Also he should get new back room team it seem no one is telling him he is wrong and he is everywhere. People nee break from him including players. Think fergie is good role model.

I alaways said AW's philosophy causing us a great problem as it didn't show any progress with the players we have now. We waited for five years.Every season we make hopes but in vain. something has be done. I don't understand football without trophies. So all the comments are correct. he should stop providing poor justifications for his shortcomings.

For the very first time since Wenger has been Manager have I come to the conclusion for all his efforts to build a solid foundation which will eventually be his legacy the club is going backwards without David Dein involved and could finally be the demise of Wenger which for me and many ardent fans will be a very sad day.

Is Wenger actually blaming his teams youthfulness for this defeat. The youth that he has been working on for near half a decade now. Christ, does he not realise yet that it isn't working out as he planned! Before you know it Cesc is going to be old enough to p[lay for Chelsea (and maybe win something!).

Thank you Arsene for being such a bad loser, filling the back pages and taking a tiny bit of heat from JT, not much though. You are by far my favourite clown in the circus right now and you seem to be hell bent on making yourself look like a huge cock. Again, thank you x x

You will never ever change wenger that is why if we are successfull against Porto and draws Chelsea and Manure will get another hammering anf that will be the fourth hameering in cl by another english team, chelsea once,Mnaure 1 and Pool once that in itself is an appallingly poor record.

It seems that the genius who is Wenger has had a cunning plan all along.

Research published this morning proves that little players don't get booked as often as tall ones.

It seems that smaller players more often finish up on the ground when tackled by bigger ones, thus the foul looks worse and so the bigger player is more likely to get booked.

When you think about it, Viera was tall and was sent off quite a few times so could that explain Le Professeur's penchant for pygmies. ;-)

Ballack is right.

Wenger, time to fucking wake up.

I don't care about the average age of the squad.
Don't care about how many passes we made.

Don't care aobut how much more possession we had.

Don't care that most football was played in chelsea's final third.

Don't care about the healthy financial form of our club/your bank account.

I care about results.

I feel like a mug for scraping my pennies together to buy my season tickets, i scrap to buy merch - and what do i get inreturn?

I get made to look a fool so that this stubborn old man can get his own way?

Fuck you arsenal. We deserve more than that. Its time for a change.

I think you´re supporting the wrong team.

For me Arsenal is more than trophys. I want to support a team with their own filosophy, good age and financial stability.

If you support a team like Chelski you will be very happy for a entire week, when your club win the trophy. But it have to be a pain to see every week your team playing so boring.

With Arsenal maybe you will not celebrate a title but at least two weekends per month during the whole season you will have a smile on your face for the way your team played.

Trust me that I see what our team lacks, like you and everyone else. But we dont need a new manager or 8 or 9 players spending 100mills. With only two or three things fixed this team will win a title.

Wenger is building on consistancy. He wants to tie his players down to long term contracts and during the summer (and if he has to the winter) he will sign one player or two at the most. It looks like he believes in a slow and gradual change that will not disrupt the cohesiveness of the team. unfortunatly for those looking for instant gradification they are constantly disapointed. I always believed that if you are looking for instant gradification try masterbating. however if you are looking for something long term and meaningful then be patient and try to see that we as a team are heading always in the right direction.

There are two pictures in which made my stomach turn..i saw on on some newspaper..one had a picture of AW looking at a pregnant woman with a monitor showing the baby inside..the headline? "Arsene monitors his next new signing"...The second picture showed a Drogba lookin dog bitting a leg that is for one of the Arsenal players and the title says "Arsenal get another mauling".....How many more humiliations are we gonna get?!!!
