Sahin on the Verge of Joining Arsenal
Arsenal are reportedly close to acquiring Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin's services on a season-long loan deal. (Goal.com)
Recent media reports suggested that Real offered Sahin to Tottenham as part of their bid to bring Luka Modric to Santiago Bernabeu, but that hasn't deterred Arsene Wenger from making a move for the Turkish playmaker.
Arsenal's star midfielder Jack Wilshere is not expected to be fit for the start of the 2011/12 season and therefore, Wenger believes that Sahin could come in handy for his side.
Cazorla to Become a Gunner by the End of the Week
Arsenal are expected to finalise the capture of Malaga winger Santi Cazorla in an £18 million deal in the next few days even though a few small details regarding the transfer have yet to be sorted out between the two clubs. (Goal.com)
The Gunners were all set to conclude the deal on Wednesday but some small issues over the schedule of payments mean that the two parties would have to talk some more. However, the unresolved issues are being considered petty in nature and they should not jeopardise the transfer itself.
Once an agreement is struck, the player would then arrive in London to have his Arsenal medical.
Goal.com's sources told them: "The Cazorla deal is the priority. It was expected to be done on Wednesday night but there has been a late hitch. It should still go through by the end of this week. The Sahin one is currently on the backburner."
The same publication also claims that current Arsenal captain Robin van Persie has been buoyed by the club's serious interest in quality players such as Cazorla and Sahin and therefore, he might reconsider his decision of not renewing his contract with the club.
Giroud Convinced Of Doing 'Something Big' With Arsenal
Arsenal newcomer Olivier Giroud believes that the Gunners are fully capable of ending their seven-year-long trophy drought in the 2012/12 season.
The French hitman helped Montpellier win the Ligue 1 championship last season by banging in 21 goals for them and he is confident that he can achieve the same honours in the upcoming season for his new club.
In an interview with Arsenal.com, Giroud said: "It's true that it was an extraordinary season with Montpellier. I won't ever forget that season because in a footballer's career, winning the title isn't forgotten so fast.
"There was a good mentality in the team, good quality, with some good players, and I look forward to finding that quality and spirit with Arsenal - that's why I chose Arsenal.
"With Montpellier, it wasn't written that we were going to be champions, so that's what made it more beautiful. With Arsenal, we might not be favourites, like the Manchester clubs, to be champions. We're outsiders, but I'm convinced that we can do something big. That’s what we did with Montpellier, and I'm proud with what I accomplished there."
Busquets Welcomes Barca's Interest in Song
Barcelona's defensive midfielder Sergio Busquets has welcomed his club's interest in Arsenal's Alex Song and said that the Cameroonian would be a good addition to the Blaugrana squad. (ESPN)
The Spanish giants recently lost the services of Seydou Keita, who has signed for Dalian Aerbin of China. As a result, there is a vacancy in the Barca midfield and they are reportedly keen to recruit the Gunners enforcer to fill the void.
In a recent interview, Busquets said: "Song is a very good player - young, a hard worker, with lots of physical power. [Barca B youngster] Sergi Roberto is very well prepared, but I think he is better as an internal option.
"Barca lose a lot without Keita, both on and off the pitch. He was a much-loved player who gave us a lot of physical power. Another player in my position would be welcome, but either way I will keep working hard to win a place in the starting team."
RVP to Juve Is a Done Deal, Claims Italian Agent Parisi
An Italian football agent named Fabio Parisi believes that a deal between Arsenal and Juventus for the transfer of Robin van Persie has already been agreed and the Gunners skipper will be heading for the Serie A before the transfer window shuts later this month. (ESPN)
Parisi, who is Dynamo Kiev left-back Tay Taiwo's agent, has no connection whatsoever with van Persie, Juventus or Arsenal but he still deemed it appropriate to talk about the situation.
He told the Italian press: "I think Juventus have had a signed contract with van Persie for some time locked away in a notary's desk. It is just my opinion but I think there is an eight out of ten chance the Dutchman will join the Bianconeri. Juventus want to win and he is considered the ideal addition to achieve that."
However, the Daily Mirror believes that van Persie's potential move to Juve is close to being off as the striker's agent's assistant named Carl Thomas recently tweeted unfavourably about the match-fixing controversy surrounding the Old Lady manager Antonio Conte.
That tweet goes something like this: "Not the bet (sic) news coming from Italy regarding Juve manager. It's hardly the advert to come and join us."
