Wenger Rejects Rodgers’ Accusations
Arsene Wenger has rejected Liverpool coach Brendan Rodgers‘ claims that Arsenal are playing games with their offers for Luis Suarez.
Rodgers recently told the press that the Gunners are showing a lack of respect in their pursuit of his club’s star striker, but as expected, Wenger doesn’t agree.
In his response to the Reds boss’ accusations, the Frenchman said: “We try [to act properly], we always try to act properly. But the transfer is always an agreement between three parties. We have always done that.”
Bernard Flying to Ukraine But Non-Committal Over Shakhtar Move
Atletico Mineiro starlet Bernard has admitted that he will soon be checking out Shakhtar Donetsk’s facilities but has maintained that it doesn’t mean a transfer to the Ukrainian giants is certain.
Bernard, 20, who is a rumoured transfer target for Arsenal and Tottenham too, recently starred for his hometown club in their first-ever Cope Libertadores triumph. While the PL duo are interested in his service, they haven’t matched O Galo’s valuation of the player like Shakhtar have.
He has been given the permission to discuss personal terms, but it seems he is a bit reluctant to move to Donetsk and is hoping that one of either the Gunners or Spurs would stump up the cash at the last moment.
In an interview with TV Alterosa, Bernard said: “It’s just a visit, there won’t be any medical. Nothing is certain and I won’t sign any documents. I made it clear to them that I would only visit so that I could see their facilities.”
Atletico president Alexandre Kalil then confirmed that the said PL pair did show some initial interest but failed to follow it up with serious offers.
“Tottenham made an offer of €18 million [£15.7m] for Bernard, but they withdrew. Arsenal told us that they would bid, but never did. So what we have now is a €25m [£21.8m] bid from Shakhtar,” he told Radio Itatiaia.
Arsenal and Spurs to Battle It Out For New Ronaldo
Arsenal FC have decided to compete with arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur in a transfer battle involving Real Betis youngster Alvaro Vadillo, who has been dubbed the ‘new Cristiano Ronaldo‘ due to his impressive physical gifts and playing style similarities with the Real Madrid ace.
The 18-year-old left-winger has been tracked by the likes of AC Milan and Manchester United in the past, but the Gunners and Spurs are currently in pole position to land him.
Tottenham are widely expected to sell Gareth Bale this month while coach Arsene Wenger used striker Lukas Podolski as a makeshift winger on the left flank last season. Hence, both could use a player of Vadillo’s talents. He also has a better chance of adapting to life in London, as unlike most Spaniards plying their trade in the PL, he is fluent in English.
Dixon Feels Gunners Would Fail In Suarez Pursuit
Former Arsenal right-back Lee Dixon doesn’t believe that the Gunners’ pursuit of Liverpool superstar Luis Suarez would prove fruitful.
The retired 49-year-old, who spent 15 years with the North London club and played 616 matches for them, feels that Real Madrid and not the Gunners have a better chance of signing Suarez.
“…I’m not sure about Suarez. I just don’t see him going to Arsenal to be honest. I think if he is going to go anywhere it will probably be to Real Madrid,” he said while talking to reporters from the the inaugural Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100.
Emirati Youngster Offered Arsenal Trial
UAE-based club Al Ain’s deputy chairman Rashid bin Mubarak Al Hajri has claimed that their talented winger Omar Abdulrahman has been offered a trial by Arsenal FC.
Apparently, competition is high for the Saudi Arabia-born youngster, who is regarded as one of the best talents in Middle East football, and Al Hajri says that his club will not stand in the way if an appropriate transfer offer arrives.
He said: “Have we had an offer from Arsenal for him to come to train? Then yes. We’ve also had offers from Spanish teams, and other teams also, but the player will decide ultimately.
“We have recieved a lot of offers for Omar. If he finds the right environment, then we will be very supportive.
“It’s a package that will have to be right, where he can improve his football. I’ll leave that for Omar – that’s for him to decide.”
