FTK Blog: Sign Shay Given and our troubles will be over!

Shay-Given-001Are you Tottenham in disguise? The refrain that rings out when the Gunners play a team that is pathetic and gives up a lead without trying, and then tries to suggest that they will win every trophy in site. Tottenham fans are jubilant and even the retards coming onto this site appear to be doing what they can to make Gooners feel much worse. Well, actually the petty jibes and insults and gloating has made me feel better. Why? Because as bad as we are at the moment, we are still better than Tottenham’s best. Imagine that? You have got to be very very bad to match the best that comes out of Shite Hart lane. Poor deluded fools. We are clearly therefore not Tottenham in disguise, but what we lack is the old Arsenal team.

I have long since said that our lack of pace in the buildup has been part of the problem. We make lovely passing patterns in midfield. We pass sideways, and play off a player and down the channels and switch flanks, but all the while whilst playing this pretty possession football, the opposition have retreated and regrouped. The defensive formations now played against us utilise the quick counter attack because of tendency to push our centre backs into high forward positions. This leaves the likes of “Drive by” Denilson as cover. I have already in earlier blogs referred to Denilson’s use of the Brazilian blinkers. A Brazilian Burro style tunnel vision that prevents him seeing the player running from his blindside. The player cruises or “drives by” with impunity. No wonder he felt compelled to apologise to the fans on Arsenal TV Online after the Braga game.

Defensively we remain naïve. The failure to keep Braga’s Martinez on his weaker right foot was not Denilson’s fault. We lack vital leadership from our Keeper. We lack height in central defence. We lack the desire to put right the deficit when a goal is scored against us. Up front we lack the desire to finish with ruthless efficiency choosing instead to pass to the player to the side, ignoring the empty net. The pace of our passes is pedestrian. We take two touches instead of one and our vulnerability to set pieces seems to be our persisting Achilles heel. What I can say is that despite this total and utter mess, we are still in it. Not that we deserve to be mind, but who cares. Only two points off the top of the Premier league, One point from qualifying for the group stages of the Champions league and four weeks away from the crunch fixtures against Chelsea and Manchester United.

Wenger must make a concerted effort to sign Shay Given in the January transfer window. Every successful Arsenal team has had a powerful voice from the goal line. Seaman and Lehmann after him castigated the centre backs if they made blunders. Their presence added steel to the back four. Their resilience under fire added confidence to the defence. Shay Given is a man without regular pay and a fat salary at Eastlands, but he thrives on being number one. Shay Given can be inspirational and has the experience to motivate others when the going gets tough. Most importantly, he has played at the highest level and knows what pressure really means. This is the decisive transfer that is needed to turn our season around. With Given in goal, we could win not only the Premier league, but the Champions League too, because we are not so far away from the best in Europe. It is all about confidence, so FTK says, sign Shay Given and our troubles will be over.

    HAHAHAAAA U R IN DA MINORITY OF 1 TO FINK UR BETTER THAN US EVEN ARSENAL FANS AND EX PLAYERS CAME ON TALKSPORT THIS MORNIN SAYIN THAT SPURS ARE PLAYING THE BEST FOOTBALL AT DA MOMENT….HAHAHAAAA!

    AS I DRINK MY COFFEE FROM MY SPURS MUG AND LOOK AT DA POSTER OF DA GLORIUS SPURS TEAM THAT SITS PROUDLY ON MY WALL.. I FINK TO MY SELF… WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD!!!

    PREDICTION…VILLA WILL TURN U OVER AND SPURS WILL THRASH DA SCOUSERS END OV!!! HEHEEEHEE!!!!
    C’MON U SSSSPPPUUURSSSS!!!!

  2. great article as usual FTK, fully agree but will happen probably not. squad wise our team can match the best in europe imo, but we still need a striker i feel with rvp crocked and chamack not always the answer, we need a fast strong lethal goal scorer. as long as we stay in the title chase to new years we will have a good chance, were playing average but yet were 2 points off the lead.

    i say keep the faith

  3. I don’t agree.
    Whole defense has been a disgrace this season. Not only this season, our defense was poor in earlier two season too.
    How many clean sheet have we kept this season.. three.. against Blackpool, Wolves and West Ham… two at the bottom of the table and one who just started to play premier league after getting promotion from championship.
    Alumnia did some howlers.. but now Fabianski is doing a great job. So, replacement at that area is going to do nothing. Rather we should improve whole defensive line at set pieces which has been the poorest of all.
    Vermaelen is injured, Campbell, Gallas left. So, in my view tall and strong center backs are needed.
    That’s just my thought.

    FTK,

    We lack leadership on the pitch. Our want-a-way captain does not provide that leadership. We need a captain in the mould of McLintock, Adams or Viera. We do not need someone whose heart is in Barcelona and seems only to whinge at the referees.

    Unfortunately, because Wenger has sold off all the older more experienced players, there is no ready made replacement.

  5. Fabregas_The_King | 25/11/2010 at 13:05 |

    @PV4…
    We have strikers up to that task, but our inclination to pass the ball sideways when only six yards out isn’t helping.
    I hope that it does happen or we will drop off the pace.

  6. We are still better than spurs best.. Those in doubt look at the table 🙂

    If we don’t get given in jan (and let’s face it that is likely) sczeczny should get a run.

    Fabianski has not done a great job. He is barely adequate but because our expectations have dropped, we find ourselves celebrating ‘adequate’

  7. Fabregas_The_King | 25/11/2010 at 13:07 |

    @MeteoraGunner

    Fabianski is improving but he lacks the personality to galvanise our back four, who need leadership.
    We do need a TALL centreback but who is available at the moment?

  8. Shay would be an excellent acquisition, can’t see it happening though. Citeh will not want to let him go, especially to a top 4 rated club (Danthecocksuckerfan are you listenin’)plus Szczesny has extended his contract after threatening to leave if he didn’t get more starts. This suggests some sort of promise has been made, if Wenger is to be believed he has great confidence in Fabianski so how would they all fit in?

    Scott Parker would be a great leader in the middle in place of Denilson and an experienced but rock hard CB until TV returns.

  9. Great use of English.

    Very educated.

    Just like the majority of Spurs fans.

  10. I hate to say it,the team is useless what a bunch of gutless fu**ers.What the squads needs is a new Captain and a striker that dosent bottle it in front of goal.

    $bunch of

  11. Fabregas_The_King | 25/11/2010 at 13:21 |

    @J.I.N

    Give Fabs so slack. He is playing under par due to his hamstring injury. he is never allowed the luxury that the likes of van Persie is given.
    The presence of Denilson is of great concern to me. How many more times must we see the goal scorer ghost past this player?

    Let us continue, go forward and slay the dragons of doubt, but a new keeper will help!

  12. Mertesacker?

  13. Shay Given will not help. He can’t catch and doesn’t dominate his area so we wouldn’t really be any better off. We need leadership on the pitch and some defenders who aren’t second rate. The current line-up at the back is just not good enough for top-level football.

    Of course, avoiding running into referees that are either totally incompetent or corrupt is not helping matters either.

  14. John in Norfolk | 25/11/2010 at 13:40 |

    FTK,

    Yes Given may help, but I think Wenger must stop tinkering with the team as a whole and the defence in particular. He must decide to a play settled back four until injury or suspension forces him to change. Pick his four fittest defenders, in their correct positions, and stick with them whoever they are.

    we may have seen the last of Fabregas, by the time he recovers (fully) from his hamstring the transfer window will be open and Inter Milan are reported to be willing to pay £43 million for him.

    Adios Cesc!

  15. Fabregas_The_King | 25/11/2010 at 14:00 |

    @Berg
    Does Mertesacker possess the consistency that we require?
    Did he play against Spurs? if so did anyone see him?
    I hear that Paris St Germain’s mamoud Sakho thinks he is the next CB for Arsenal, and he’s only 6ft 2in

  16. Fabregas_The_King | 25/11/2010 at 14:01 |

    @Mcluke
    Szcznesy is worth a gamble in the FA Cup for sure, but it looks as though Almunia is still being considered from the Wolves Reserves game where Aaron Ramsay has one half

  17. Fabregas_The_King | 25/11/2010 at 14:02 |

    @Berg
    Scott Parker would give leadership,
    I always remember him wacking Tony Adams at Highbury…lol

  18. Fabregas_The_King | 25/11/2010 at 14:03 |

    @BOD

    Harsh mate…

    VERY HARSH

  19. Fabregas_The_King | 25/11/2010 at 14:04 |

    @The Colonel

    Thank you for your view, but I do recall seeing Given dominate his area in International games

  20. JIN,congratulations,i knew given time you would come around.

  21. John in Norfolk | 25/11/2010 at 14:23 |

    McLuke,

    What makes you think Sczeczny will be better than Fabianski, He has virtually no Premier league experience and no Champions league experience.

    You are just advocating more tinkering with the defence. They need to play together to attain a level of understanding and to develop confidence in each other.

  22. John in Norfolk | 25/11/2010 at 14:45 |

    Sorry James,

    Come around to what exactly?

  23. Well he’s tall enough 😆

    Sorry, can’t watch that pile of white shite, my view is that until TV returns we need a quick fix and he was rumoured to be ready to move on in January.

  24. Those Yid cu..s are doing my head in.
    I left work early today cos i could’nt stand the constant jibes of “we are the greatest team since time began and we’re gonna win everything and u lot are shit”.
    I had to leave other wise i was about to slap a couple of them…
    Maaan imagine them actually winning something?
    I’d leave the country for good.
    Please God let Liverpool give them a good spankin, and maybe then we could get back to some sanity.

  25. GunnerPete

    Don’t worry their bubble will burst soon then they’ll disappear into their hovels once again.

  26. Not that it adds any substance but Szczesny’s time at Brentford (loan) was very successful having kept something like 14 consecutive clean sheets.

  27. DANTHEHOTSPURMAN | 25/11/2010 at 15:18 |

    GUNNER PETE? U R A LOSER MATE!
    PATHETIC LIVERPOOL WHO R IN CRISES WILL NEVER GIVE US A SPANKING NOT IN A MILLION YEARS COZ WE ARE DA BEST FOOTBALLING SIDE AND THATS OFFICIAL!

    AS FOR U LIMP GUNNERS WHO R SHIT SHIT SHIT BY DA WAY… VILLA WILL FINISH U OFF COZ U R LIKE A DYING PONY THAT NEEDS TO BE PUT OUT OF ITS MISERY HEHEHEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

    ARRY REDKNAP TAKE A BOW MY SON TAKE A BOW!!!

  28. John in Norfolk | 25/11/2010 at 15:27 |

    Let’s all have a laugh at the expense of Tottenham Wanderers. Their fans, all twenty of them, are going to march on Saturday in protest at the proposed move to Stratford.

    It could be the funniest event in London for years, as they try decide which way to go. That’s why Spuds p**s is yellow and semen is white, so they can tell whether they are coming or going. 😀

  29. City wouldnt sell to us. Fulham wanted him to replace Schwartzer who was coming to us, but City blocked the whole thing just to do us damage, they dont care about his career – they’d rather he rot in the reserves while his career is ending than benefit a rival. A class act that club

  30. It’s not tinkering when it’s an improvement.

    Fabianski is average on current form and whilst that may be good enough for most clubs, we are a top 4 side with (apparent) CL ambitions. A world class keeper is required to reflect that. I believe that Sczeczny is world class and given the poor keepers ahead of him, he should have his chance like they did.

  31. DANTHEHOTSPURMAN | 25/11/2010 at 16:03 |

    BREAKING NEWS!!!
    YES! YES! YES!!!
    SPURS FAN BORIS JOHNSON HAS JUST BACKED US TO REDEVELOPE OUR BELOVED 450MILLION POUND GROUND WHICH WILL BE DA BEST GROUND INDA WORLD HAHAHA!!!
    STICK THAT IN UR PIPES AND SMOKE IT LOSERS!

  32. Fabianski is currently rated as the 2nd best GK in the EPL after Cech, so stop talking shite about how he is average on current form when he has been arguably our best player for the best part of 2 months.

    As for this article, you really think signing Given will answer all of our problems? If you do you are mentally ill, Given has been a great servant to the Premier League but he will not do any good for Arsenal, he is a major flapper at corners and he is NOT in any way shape or form a box commander. He is a brilliant shot stopper and it ends there.

    The problem or problems we have is that AW has made us predictable, and easy to beat by teams who employ the right tactics. He also has no idea how to tactically organise a defence.

    I often do wonder how long the people who say we can buy our way of trouble have ACTUALLY been watching the club, me thinks they are merely fairweather JCL’s who wouldn’t know football if it hit them in the face.

    Our problems are tactical inneptness, mental fragility above all else, complacency.

  33. DANTHEHOTSPURMAN | 25/11/2010 at 17:05 |

    MAAN UP TO DUDEEEE!!!
    FOR SAYIN IT LIKE IT IS…TATICAL INNEPTNESS… MENTAL FRAGILITY… AND CALLIN U LOT MENTALLY ILL…HAHAHAAA!!! CLASSIC!
    SEE U LOT LATER… IM OFF FO A DRINK!!!

  34. wouldn’t you rather be sucking off your fellow spurs fans on a spuds blog instead of making yourself look like an uneducated fuckface on ours?

    IT HAD BEEN 17 YEARS SINCE YOU BEAT US AT OUR HOME….17 Can you count that high??? you should take your win as a fluke and shut the FUCK up! Humble pie will will soon be the main course for your mouth soon.

  35. DANTHEHOTSPURMAN | 25/11/2010 at 17:34 |

    HUMBLE PIE? NEVER GONNA HAPPEN U SAD GIT!
    I HATE PIES….THEY GIVE ME DA FARTS!
    SAUSAGE EGG AND CHIPS IS MORE UP MY WAY AND A CURRY ON DA FRIDAY… MMMM YUMM! YUMM!… I MITE AVE ONE AFTER DA PUB TONITE AND WATCH AGAIN DA SPURS 3-2 WIN OVER DA WANKERS ON MY SKYPLUS!
    CMON U SPUUURRRSSSSSSSS!

  36. Hey FTK..I dont think Arsene will lsn to reason and will remain with Almunia and Fabinaski..these guys are like waves..first they are calm and all is peaceful..then all hell breaks lose and we end up with a Tsunami (no offense to the Tsunami victims)..The season is still not over..we can still go top on Saturday with a win on Aston Villa..However I fear that some players who are doing great this season might see it as an excuse to leave..(a.k.a do a Flamini on us) but im not trying to be negative im just stating what i fear MIGHT happen..dont get me wrong guys but I love Arsenal..I love em to the deep core of my bones thro and thro..and if it makes me sad and sometimes negative is because I love this club..it’s my fuckin addiction.

    With all this profit generating we are hearing something needs to be done…If I’m that American owner whom I forgot his name or the Russian owner I’d demand change..maybe we should bring Obama to do one of those Change speech that made him president…maybe those players will learn a few things about hope and the need to change..and perhaps do what Obama couldn’t do..unite the players together and make them fight hard for becoming the best of the best…

    Arsenal till I die,

    and I hope we will win against Villa..

  37. Dan for God’s sake we r bored of u already..just go already…ud think u actually won the league…get a life u shit

  38. Very harsh, but true. The worst players should be ruthlessly fired soon. This “Idoncare” attitude is intolerable. I’m losing confidence in Wenger too. 😥 Is he really so stupid? I want him to win trophies for us, but this way sooner or later he gets fired. Why has he been carrying the defensive problems for so many years? That’s mainly the reason for not winning titles.

  39. You’re a shite bugger mate.

  40. DANTHEHOTSPURMAN | 25/11/2010 at 21:18 |

    OK

  41. awwwww did i make u sad Carlos?…its ok..u dont have to cry…u cock sucking ass muncher

  42. Hamy, your such a wanker, sort yourslf mate!

  43. james the specail 1 | 25/11/2010 at 21:46 |

    Wat a ridiculous article well done FTK u have proven to me ur even more of an idiot than I first thought, good job mate.

  44. I agree. Many of the goals we concede are down to individual errors by the defenders and they don’t happen because they don’t have confidence in the keeper. And fabianski has saved us on several ocassions and has won us many points by keeping us in games. Everton and wolves are just two examples.

  45. Maybe Shay Given would improve us, maybe he wouldn’t. However, City won’t sell. END OF DISCUSSION

  46. agreed, get parker because he is the heart and soul of west ham, we need passion in our team, and a bit of fire.

    Also steven taylor from newcastle would be a great pickup (doesnt get a gig at toon thanks to williams and collocini. Not to mention he got a broken jaw from carroll so surely his ‘geordie 4 life’ attitude would of wavered. He is quality, and leadership in abundance (was under 21 captain 4 england).

    Djourou should be the one to partner vermaelen when he comes back, hes not slow like squilanci, not error prone like kos,he wins the header nearly everytime, and he calm on the ball.

    FTK, ur thoughts?

  47. reality.

  48. wait till the end of the season. All the ‘top’ teams are faultering
