Arsenal fans should see it as a compliment that there is continuing speculation in the media about our captain Cesc Fabregas. As for the player himself, I believe that he is loyal and is going nowhere unless Arsenal decide to sell him. His latest quote is nothing new. But I would warn Gooners to keep quiet and refrain from knocking our player. This is a time when fans need to show loyalty. If you turn upon Fabregas, based upon press speculation then you are not only foolish and extremely gullible, but someone with a very short memory.
His comments last autumn after Barcelona after the catalan side destroyed Athletico Madrid 6
-nil were also widely reported
“I would like to try to win more titles here, although next season we’ll see,” the Spaniard said. “It would be a dream to return to Barcelona one day.”
Fabregas Quoted by English media October 2008
On the official Arsenal Club website, the player was clear in his allegiance to the gunners when he said
“It is true that I said I admire Milan for their rich history and the way they play football but that is as far as the story goes, I am honoured to be wearing the captain’s armband for Arsenal and I am 100 per cent committed to this Club. My future is here.”
Arsenal.com Dec 2008.
If we examine the media speculation about these latest comments, there is an underlying theme, Fabregas says he is an Arsenal Player and he is happy here. He is our captain.
“I am happy at Arsenal and I want to win titles there.” “If Guardiola called me it would be different. I would be delighted to go. Pep was a role model for me. He was my footballing hero when I was small.”
Fabregas interviewed by El Mundo Deportivo June 2009 whilst in South Africa for Confederations Cup.
He has no intention of leaving but Fabregas does want Yaya Toure…
“It is true that without someone like that we have been slightly unbalanced and weakened in such an important position. It is a position that is undervalued but it is so important, especially for teams like ours that attack so much. When you have the ball it is so important to have a guarantee that there is someone behind you covering.”
So lets not have the usual Gooners panicking over press speculation about one of our players. If Yaya Toure is yet to sign a contract, then Arsenal would do well to try and sign him. But all that is down to Arsene Wenger and Ivan Gazidis. In my opinion, our skipper is going NOWHERE this summer, unless Arsene Wenger decides that it is time to cash in.
Liverpool have issued a statement that Torres and Mascherano is not for sale, as press speculation mounts about their players. We need to calm down and ignore these latest press reports. Players do read the media and also are sensitive to the fans consensus. Take our own Adebayor who is one player who has been affected by negative comments of Gooners.
It is time that we all wised up and realised the games that are being played here. The journalists love a crisis at Arsenal and Gooners would be very foolish to feed their desires by unwise media comment. You can be sure that TalkSport and Sky Sports will be keen to broadcast “We don’t want/need Fabregas” comments from Arsenal fans So my my advice is to keep quiet and move on…Yawn!!!
