Arsenal News
FTK rant: Perhaps I need to believe more…
This week has been pretty amazing for passionate Arsenal fans like you and me.
Rewind…
Niklas Bendtner misses 6 gold plated opportunities against Burnley at the Emirates.
Sky Sports News and every Arsenal hating pundit brands him a fool, a waste of energy. Christmas DVD's are being made of the clips, with titles like "Six Bendy Boobs" or " 6 things you can't do with a Bendtner", get the drift?
Now I recall my earlier blogs slating Bendtner. I refused to write one condemning him after the Burnley game as the fact that he was in the danger area was good enough. The conversion of chances into goals would come later. Better a striker’s instinct now than none at all.
But believe me, it was hard sitting on my hands saying nothing...
Why?
After Aaron Ramsey, the last thing thisArsenal team needs right now is a slating from those who purport to support our great club. We actually have a real chance to win the title. I decided that my words could have been used to damage the morale of the team further, so sometimes you have to remain silent. Not cowardice, just loyalty…
Fast forward to Champions league we beat Porto 5-nil,
Niklas Bendtner scoring a hatrick?
Headlines? Zero to hero… Even the Sun tabloid piece of shite apologises to him openly (tongue in cheek of course)
Work that one out. That evening I actually said to a companion before the game,
“ I am very nervous, because if Bendtner misses crucial opportunities and we lose the match, then the anti Wenger sentiment might begin to grow on me.” I added
“ but you know what? I wouldn’t put it past Bendtner to go and score a hatrick… and if he does , then my belief in Arsene Wenger will have been reinforced bBecause that’s why I trust in him.”
He did (score a hatrick) and it was… (my belief reinforced)
Perhaps what was worse was the fact that I heard the odds for Bendy to score a hatrick that night were 40:1
Had I not had a wobble in my faith and believed in Wenger absolutely then my reasoning would have seen me place a fiver on my hunch, and I would have been £200 richer. I have wasted a fiver on far worst things let me tell you. I still think that Bendtner will never be World Class based upon his lack of composure in front of goal, but you know what? I don’t care because the guy is a Gooner. He tries hard for the team. He gets into good positions. He now has the foundations of becoming a good striker. Who knows maybe even better.
Perhaps I need to believe more…
Does anyone else know that feeling?

Let's go fcking mental...
lalalalala lalalalal!
and yes i have that feeling that you need to believe more aswell !!! hahaha !
dont let yourself be bought down by all the doom and gooners, keep the faith and leave the humble pie to those who are more deserving.
will disagree on bendy i can see him becoming top draw , big strong centre forwards dont often come to the fore until mid to late twenties, this boy is showing glimpses of real class and deserves our support.
just look at huntelaar yesterday poor holding up play, poor passing poor positioning, bendy looks twice the player and has my full backing as long as he is a gooner !!!
in wenger i trust !!!!!
in arsenal i love !!!!!
Bendy is looking better than Huntelaar plus he is willing to work hard...
the other good one was yakubu scoring a hat-trick for maccabi haifa !!
get on the bendtner bus FTK, GET ON YOU JANNEEEEEER !!
perhaps the best way forward is to be patient.
Practice makes perfect, but I wish he'd do the practicing on the practice ground and not during an actual game...lol
Are you his agent?
Clairvoyant or what???
I expect 50 quid from your lotto win tomorrow mate....
Re Bendtner, check out these stats:
http: // www.goal. com/en/news/9/england/2010/03/10/1826323/arsenal-comment-nicklas-bendtner-is-arsene-wengers-most-valuable-
Apparently our win rate is 76% when he's playing (better than Cesc's and Arshavin's win rate). When he doesn't play, our win rate is a little over 50%.
He'll never be an Henry (it's impossible to find another Henry), I don't think he'll ever be at that level (tho of course I'd love to see him make me eat lots of humble pie on that). But, as you say, he works hard and keeps getting into the right positions. He keeps improving and he's a great link-up man. And we lost our shape and momentum on Tuesday when he was taken off.
Also, very important for me: HE NEVER HIDES. He just keeps trying. Last season he got far FAR more home crowd abuse than Greedbayor ever did but he never complained to the press, he just put his head down and kept trying.
That's why I've always preferred Bendtner to Ade, even when Ade was banging in those goals. Ade was constantly talking to the press, like saying how flattered he was that Utd showed interest in him (which I never believed) in an attempt to get more money and playing time from Arsenal (this was before his 30-goal one-season success with us).
[continued]
For all this talk of Bendtner being "arrogant," I've yet to see any quotes from him in the press that show it. I'm sure he is arrogant about his abilities but I've always thought that arrogance was exaggerated -- to me, it doesn't look like anything more than the natural arrogance a lot of footballers have about their abilities. Bendnter's press interviews always sound down to earth, straightforward , simple and basic. He didn't even know he had the right to the ball after his hattrick. After the game he said he never dwells on a game, whether it was a good one or bad one for him, he just moves on to the next one. Great attitude.
Let's see how he's doing when he turns 24. Only then will I be ready to start making any definitive judgments about him. At 24, Drogba was in France's 2nd division, ffs!
Bendtner's a great link-up man, wins a lot of headers and offers a physicality that we lack when he's not on the pitch. He'll have bad games, no doubt. But 22 is just too young to make any grand predictions about him, good or bad. For now, I'm willing to watch him work hard and continue to improve, even when he will (inevitably) have bad games.
The stats do confirm that Bendtner is improving and added to that his positional awareness is good.
C'mon have you never had an angry moment about Wenger?
then calmed down?....
If you show faith in our team they will deliver.
Why are we so interested in finding flaws instead of celebrating our team?
keep it to yourself...
I know you have a lot of sway at HQ FTK, but do you really think NB would be affected by your post if you slagged him off?
Like you said, you have stated many many times on here how you dont think he is good enough. And Denilson of course.
NB is only 22. The composure will come with age. Everyone praises Emile Heskey for the job he does for the team. Not his goalscoring record.
With NB in the side, at Centre Forward, we have a great shape to our team and a focal point. It is no coincidence that we play much better with him than without him. (Thanks for showing the stats Harper)
And for the record, if we win nothing this season, I for one will not turn on the team or AW. I can see huge progress being made this year. And if we keep everyone together, this will only get better.
Our team are maturing, year on year, towards a peak.
United, Chelsea, Liverpool, City, have most of their players who are at their peak or ready to start declining. And we are matching them in the league table. Yes we are still a way off when we play them, but we can improve. The others will go backwards unless heavy spending takes place as they have no sustained youth structure like we have built over the last 13 years.
I am keeping the faith!!
That part of the blog was tongue in cheek
Blogs don't always have to be 100% factual and can be merely a reflection of what's inside my head.
It's called ENTERTAINMENT
Jose James, you definately are special
And just so you know, muppet, he scored 3 goals against Porto. Am guessing they don't do Maths at your school??
I am glad you are back. Gives me something to laugh at every day.
As harper (i think it was) said before, drgba is nowhere to be seen at 24. Bendtner will be something special, hes got the perfect mind set, and if he keeps improving at a steady rate, weve got a world class big forward on our hands. Arshavin-Bendtner-RVP i can see it now in a season or two
You are some NOB.
Oops Special NOB.
