Disgruntled Gooners set to protest at Emirates Cup
by CARL ELDRIDGE Moves are afoot to stage a protest against Arsene Wenger during the Emirates Cup tournament before the season kicks off -- IF our beloved leader fails to sign a proven goalkeeper.
I have been told by one of a group of hardline, pissed off supporters that they will kick up a fuss in one way or another to bemoan the fact that we will be going into the campaign without a decent No.1. Remember, we have Celtic, Lyon and AC Milan coming to the home of football on July 31, and August 2.
Of course, this comes in the light of the risible performances throughout the season from Manuel Almunia and Lucasz Fabianksi and the tabloids have been feverishly putting forward possible targets to fill the void, top of the list has been Joe Hart from Manchester City as well as Gigi Buffon with even Paul Robinson (God forbid) being mentioned.
There were noises of unrest towards the end of last season when it became clear we weren't going to win the Champions League or the title and many disgruntled supporters, rightly or wrongly, called for AW's head.
Ok, I am not condoning this protest so please don't shoot the messenger. I trust AW and stand by his decisions. By the same token it will happen should AW fail to act, I am told, and we must defend their right to show their disquiet. Of course, it may not even go ahead if AW lands a decent stopper.
But the protest group's spokesman (if you can call him that - which I have as I don't want to tell you who he is) tells me they firmly believe that AW won't land a new keeper and will persist with what we have which includes, let us not forget, Vito Mannone and Wojciech Szczesny unless he goes out on loan again for a season.
The reason that he has become far too stubborn to listen to the fans or indeed the media and that he is so one-eyed over this issue that he will persist with what we have in the hope of being proved right with some silverware next season. Or at least our usual Champions League place which he considers as good as a trophy.
There was some talk of a black scarf protest for the final home game of last season against Fulham but the numbers didn't prove to be significant enough for their voices to be heard. All I saw was a banner up the North Bank which said 'signings or sign out' and was removed by the Arsenal gestapo at half-time, which was a disgrace.
To add to previous bloggers' views on the catering at Arsenal. Best bet is to have a feast at the Arsenal Fish Bar in Blackstock Road and smuggle a couple of miniatures in for half-time. Job's a good 'un. Up the Gunners.

no you need a slap, people are tired of the way wenger taking the club as his little toy. we should be competing fo rfirst or 2nd place not fighting for 4th place, these bunch of kids will not deliver any trophy, we need a proper balance of youth and experience to achieve that. your stubburn manager is dilusional, he thinks the world stand stilll while his kids improve year after year, every year the goal post gets a little futher , he wont buy proper replacements and recruits, this team will never stop building and at the same time all the player are being sold as there game develop for revenue, we are a feeder club can't you see that.

I really don't like arsenal fans like you, you assume just because someones from another country that their "not real fans" i live in Australia I've only ever been to The Emirates once but i flew half way across the world to get there! I watch EVERY AFC game every season LIVE! that's watching at anywhere between the ours of 11pm to the late start matches at 4am! so do want to start talking to me the way you did "jack p"? hmmm? start calling me not a real fan? maybe point out a few flaws in my grammar to help you feel good about yourself!
I'm arsenal through and through and just because we have an opinion that differs to yours doesn't give you any right to say we should support anyone else, "jack p" had valid points where as you just decided to attack the person rather than give a intelligent opinionated view. I can't understand Arsenal supporters that think that Arsenal have a god give right to be winning trophies every year. Its like Liverpool expecting to be in the Champions league because they have a big history. Its not that simple. Wenger has taken Arsenal from being an average club to be a top level club for every year that he has been there. Champions league for 13 years. The Scum have just quailified for CL for the first time this year. Did you see how they celebrate? Arsenal fans just don't know how lucky they are, Wenger has done all this on less of a budget than any other top half of the premiership team.
Don't get me wrong. We need to win trophies. This is Wengers job but a bit of rational perspective would not go a miss with some supporters.

i fully support this.although we stand by le boss, he has been very stubborn inspite of repeated requests for decent signings(im not asking stars, but definitely someone better than silvester was available last season).if he continues this way there are other managers-rjikaard, van basten or even our own bould who might be willing to takeover from AW.we need to make a measurable progress and everytime AW comes out and says we have made it, i feel like tearing my hair out......we need some quality players in and deadwood out....

You cannot measure a club's success by trophies alone. We are in a far better position than we have ever been and expect Wenger's plan to succeed over the next couple of years. Then they will all be praising him – if he hasn't got fucked off with it all and gone somewhere where he will be appreciated. You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone.

I am loyal to Arsenal FC (the Football Club not the business or the PLC) and unfortunately Wenger has got away with way too long of messing us the fans about.
The people that keep telling Wenger how great he is and how he has a job for life are the ones that are damaging the club because it allows Wenger to go into every season with a youth team and carry out his experiments. Whereas the ones that make noise and are not happy with the way things have been going are the geniune Arsenal fans. They are the ones that give Wenger a kick up his backside so that we could put an end to this failed project of his.
6 years without a trophy is not acceptable. Even Alex Ferguson would not survive at Manutd if he didnt win anything for the next six years. Infact I would go as far as saying if Fergie had 2 seasons without a trophy he would not survive.
Wenger is the only manager in the world who is able to get away with 5 years of winning fuck all because we have idiotic fans that worship him and follow him blindly.
We don’t have the funds to buy big stars and have big squads. So we built a bigger stadium to pay for exactly that. Its been 4 years since the stadium. Give it time. The problem we have is keeping players, not working hard enough etc. The new crop of lads coming through are Londoners. Gooners. With real quality. Plus as they grow the manager in charge of the club will have more freedom for a wage bill as the net profit will be higher and will also have transfer funds.
All this could be jeopardised by rushing and panic buying. Don’t let the press cloud your view of Arsenal Football Club. Trophies are not the be all and end all. Divide the number of trophies we have by the number of years we have been around, it will put it all into perspective.

But us Arsenal fans? why? because we didn't win the league? or be named the best in Europe? We all know are goalkeepers aren't the best in the league but any goalkeeper will tell you it is all about confidence, what sort off good is a protest going to do if we don't buy a keeper? other than weaken our current crop, think of the pressure on a new goalkeeper knowing that the fans will crucify him if he makes one error. All goalkeepers make mistakes, Seaman, Schmeichel, Cech, Casillas....the list goes on, they have all dropped high profile clangers.
Dont get me wrong, i believe we would be far stronger with Joe Hart in the sticks, especially as i believe the fans will not be too hard on him seen as he is English. But thats just my humble opinion.
I love our club, and worship Arsene Wenger for how he has kept us in Europe throughout the move, make no mistake his hands have been tied, i know everyone in the club over the last few years has come out saying we have money to spend but im not so sure.
To all the fans screaming for a trophy, just look at Pompey. we are in a far better state obviously but before Redknap went on a ridiculous spree of signings and high wages they were a stable club. They won the FA cup because of this frivolity and have payed a Hefty price, which may see a fine club disappear.
You just have to read between the lines this season with regards to money, all we have heard is how we are now in a fantastic financial state.... i think we will see money spent.

Almunia and Fabianski have never looked reliable as number 1's really. Although Almunia did have a good first season as the leading keeper he soon dropped his performances.
David James used to be remembered as Calamity James yet people love him these days as he proved himself.
I think Almunia has grown as far as he will though and Fab needs a stint on loan where he can play regularly.
Almunia statistically had a better season than Buffon... but people don't care about that and, tbh, I rate Buffon FAR higher... but what if he ends up as another player that can't cut it in the EPL? An expensive risk to bring to the English game at an age where, you would think, he is less willing to adapt.

I can proudly say outside and anywhere that I support a fantastic club with a fantastic manager. If some fans cant figure out why we are the envy of many club owners (Including Chelsea owner and Real Madrid owners) then I wouldn’t have any problems differentiating those fans from fans like me.
If Wenger should resign today, nothing less than 15 top clubs and countries will want to sign him with the most expensive contract ever.

Senderos wasn't happy to be the fourth or fifth choice CB, which is why we (reasonably) let him go on loan. Silvestre, as an older player with his career behind him, was happy to just sit in the squad - hence why he stayed on, instead.
And if you think our standard of football in the later Graham years and Rioch year was "fine", you have a different memory to me. We were playing such shite that we often struggled to sell over 35,000 seats. The man's won 3 league titles and almost exponentially increased our revenue.

How any one can defend wenger after he banked 40m on the sale of ade and toure and did nothing in the summer nor the winter window to buy a goalkeeper is pure neglegence.

A lack of constructive criticism will not move our club forward, it is not all about money, it is about questioning the people around you and having those around you challenge you, Wenger no longer has any of this.

I too worry about our manager (that is the arsen of the last 5 years and not the one before that). Arsene said Fabianski is a brilliant goalie, but is only nervous, he said the changes will be minimal- 3 max since Gallas is going. He has only mentioned defence. Does that mean we will get 2 defenders (plus Chamakh)?
Either Arsene has got his team woefully wrong or he and Hillwood have been telling a lot of porkies about Arsenal's financial situation - no one has really got to the bottom of this, because I personally feel the manager and the board tend to prefer raising and maintaining shareholder's interests than developing the team.

Only two of these clubs won anything this year. Only two of these clubs won anything last year. Or the year before that.
Who says spending money means you will win things? Look how much money Real Madrid spent in the summer. They have one of the world's best players (Christiano Ronaldo) and arguably the best goalkeeper in the world (Iker Casillas). When was the last time they won anything?
Another problem with Wenger "signing out" is that half the team would go with him. Arshavin quoted working with Wenger as one of the key reasons he came to Arsenal. So did Ramsey, Sagna, Nasri, etc, etc. Fabregas has said that Wenger is like a father to him and that he owes him so much for his career. Without all these players (or any inscentive for world class replacements) where exactly would Arsenal FC be? Not in third place that's for sure.
And if we do drop out of the Champions League, the Europa League, the top half of the Premier League, and even down one or more leagues, exactly where will all you fans in support of this protest be? Supporting the next up and coming club I bet, while the rest of us who love this club will still be at the stadium every Saturday, cheering on the team that is in our hearts.

To win the league you need the best squad. For 5 years we have not had the best squad. Therefore we don't deserve to win the league. Chelsea not winning the title for 3 years is a bigger failure than us not winning for 5. Us winning it before is not enough to say we can win it again.
So how does one go about doing that? Well spending is one method which is what chelsea dominate in and man u do not falter in. We can't compete with that. Simple. We have money but no where near enough to get star players. We can just about afford high salaries to have good players.
Go to the transfer league and see that from 04-09 we have spent less than 19 premier league clubs in transfers yet we are 3rd. We don't deserve 3rd financially yet we are there. We are doing more than our finances let us and for those that are too naive to know MONEY DOES CREATE SUCCESS (o, and santa claus aint real).
For a manger that is apparently rubbish, with a bunch of useless deadwood and kids I say he's done amazingly well.
Face the facts, chelsea bought and ruined the league in 2004-2005 and arsenal winning it in 03-04 does not justify us winning it this year.
You can pinpoint instances where we lost the title, but with a squad that are on the highest wage bill we were it's amazing we were even in it in the first place.
We HAVE overachieved.
But I will still watch every arsenal game. I will still enjoy every success and I will hope they win the title. But if we won it won't be because we are arsenal, a top club. It's because combined with luck those players pushed themselves to earn beyond themselves.

And somebody could tell me what the hell is this youth project sh*t.Evrytime i read this i ve to laugh because i m sure people who write it have no idea too.The only youth project that s happening at arsenal is the academy, none of the double winning youth team are first team yet and are on loan (Wilshere,JET, Lansbury,Bartle y, AYling,Chesna) or still playing reserve or -18 match (barazite,Aneke ,Afobe,coquelin ...).

1)Why didnt AW,for all his mature intelligence and personal skills not break the losing streak after birmingham debacle( the eduardo incidence)?
2)Why didnt AW play AA during the semis of FA cup? - his reasoning was "i want this team to know they can win without him".....is that a valid reason?what does he think the fans are ?idiots? to spend their time,money,ener gy following our beloved team.....
3)Why didnt he buy a decent back up for defence knowing that silvester is shit....he could have atleast played the bartleys and nordveidts of our team....they make mistakes,but they learn from it and have a potential to grow...silvestre just makes mistakes and is over the hill...
4)Doesnt he ever say anything to diaby,denilson, walcott and nasri when they fail to turn up for matches....A manager like mourinho once replaced swp after 20 mins when he was playing like shit.....shows intent and sends a strong message to all the players not to take their places for granted....
I am not asking for AWs head,or massive buyings( stars ), or a complete overhaul of mgmt etc....i ask for gradual and visible improvements in the team,attitudes, skills( do clichy and sagna ever cross in practise??), understanding of teammates( can we play any other formation equally well?..we have been together for 5 yrs......).
Atleast now we need AW to comeout and say that some changes are needed and hell rectify them.instead he is trying to give lame excuses for defeats to barca and wigan!!!!

are u happy that song and campbell came good but "we, the arsenal" finished 3rd?? please dont think we fans are asking for his head.AW is a legend,but he is becoming too stubborn and headstrong with his own importance, undermining the desire to win that the fans crave by throwing away trophies that he could easily have won(CC and FA cups spring to mind.).Just by being sensible and a bit more tactical we could have won the CC( when we were in final against chelsea) atleast. similarly,we could have gone to FA cup finals had he fielded AA from teh beginning of the match,last yr....
We have shown patience, respected his word and believed him but he ends up saying he is happy with his belief in the squad( that has silvestre,almun ia and fabianski) and players returning from perennial injuries are like new signings.He has to own up and atleast say that he messed up at parts with certain signings.(denilson, diaby, silvestre, fabianski).....
he has to rectify them atleast for the sake of the team's overall balance than to placate the fans......
imagine how rvp,cesc,clichy must feel when they have almunia/fabianski in the goal,denilson along them in mf, silvestre in defence......???they dont deserve to play with such substandard players.....

The goalkeeper situation was been there for the past 3 seasons & its an insult to mine & many others intelligence to see Almunia or Fabianski in goal for us. If Wenger doesn't replace them & soon, he needs sectioning not replacing
We left a perfectly good proper stadium where we were already paying top money for a soulless concrete bowl with the most expensive seats in Europe to pay one of the highest wages bills in the country, so we can watch the likes of Denilson,Diaby, Walcott plus the two clowns in goal.
That is not progress & that is what is sticking in the throats of a lot of Arsenal fans, not that we haven't won a trophy for 5 years because we have no divine right to win anything but the facts are that until Wenger addresses the situation, we are not going to even be competing.
Only two of these clubs won anything this year. Only two of these clubs won anything last year. Or the year before that.
Who says spending money means you will win things? Look how much money Real Madrid spent in the summer. They have one of the world's best players (Christiano Ronaldo) and arguably the best goalkeeper in the world (Iker Casillas). When was the last time they won anything?
Another problem with Wenger "signing out" is that half the team would go with him. Arshavin quoted working with Wenger as one of the key reasons he came to Arsenal. So did Ramsey, Sagna, Nasri, etc, etc. Fabregas has said that Wenger is like a father to him and that he owes him so much for his career. Without all these players (or any inscentive for world class replacements) where exactly would Arsenal FC be? Not in third place that's for sure.
And if we do drop out of the Champions League, the Europa League, the top half of the Premier League, and even down one or more leagues, exactly where will all you fans in support of this protest be? Supporting the next up and coming club I bet, while the rest of us who love this club will still be at the stadium every Saturday, cheering on the team that is in our hearts.

Win at all costs or its failure is just a product of our new media society. You should be grateful for what Arsene has done for our club. He has raised our world profile into a super club with a financially sound foundation. This short term sacrifice ensures our long term stability and success.
Do you want success at the cost of risking our clubs future? – Look at the state of affairs at Utd and the pool (debts to the eyeballs which will be reflected on the pitch soon, well it has already for the pool). Do you want your grand kids to support the club that’s in your blood?
If you cannot see reality and get sucked into the media guff then you are as stupid as your writing suggests.
