Porto – Hull City Away

championsleague1An excellent win last night against Porto sees us into the draw for the Champions League quarter finals. This will take place on Friday week 19 March at UEFA HQ in Nyon, Switzerland at 11.00am GMT. Our road to the final in Real Madrid’s Estadio Bernabéu will be clear. The draw for the semi-finals will be made at the same time. The draw will be broadcast live via the UEFA website at www.uefa.com and on Eurosport. If you’re of a particularly optimistic cast of mind, …

And the Arsenal Man of the Match against Porto goes to Cesc Fabregas, oh no, wait …

champions_league_largeby JAMES CURTIS I wasn’t at all feeling unprofessional or even in the slightest guilty when I woke up for work this morning with a small hangover and smelling of the chicken wings I bargained off the man at PFC on the way home. It’s not every night you win 5-0 in the knock-out stage of the Champions League.  Arsenal’s best performer on the night was Cesc Fabregas, for his ingenious efforts to stay out of the tie and allow the rest of the Arsenal pups to show t…

Burnley – First Win For Aaron/Porto

aaron-ramseySaturday was our first match post Aaron Ramsey’s horrible injury away to Stoke City in the Potteries. The players ran out wearing t-shirts over their jerseys with “GET WELL AARON” and his squad number 16 on the back.  Wales similarly appeared in t-shirts bearing the legend GET WELL SOON RAMBO! Last Wednesday night before their friendly with Sweden in Swansea.  A very big well played to those good people at REDaction for the ONE AARON RAMSEY banner in the …

Fabregas out of Porto clash

fabregas03092008by CARL ELDRIDGE It's the news that we were fearing, Cesc Fabregas is out of our Champions League clash with Porto tomorrow night after he limped out of the win over Burnley on Saturday. Arsene Wenger had said that he would gamble with Cesc but it is obviously a gamble not worth taking. Fabregas aggravated a hamstring problem in his right leg and he was unable to train with the team this morning and AW has now confirmed he will not risk him in the game in whic…

Burnley - All Our Yesterdays

stadiumfrontTomorrow sees Burnley’s first League visit to us for over 34 years. As I rapidly approach the coffin dodging stage of my life I have to confess that I was there at Highbury the last time we played the Lancastrians for League points at home. It was the 1975/6 season. Our European Fairs Cup and Double triumphs were rapidly fading into the past and we were sinking into mediocrity, relegation danger.  Our team on that pre-Christmas December afternoon was:  J…

Burnley/Sit Down, Shut Up!

goal1I won’t say too much about about Aaron Ramsey’s injury today. Just about everything that can be said has been already. It’s time to look forward now without forgetting the lessons of this injury and the previous ones to Abou Diaby and Eduardo. Let’s all hope that the most optimistic medical predictions are true and that Aaron will be fit for selection by this coming September.  I hope that our reaction to yet another major injury set-back is to take our game t…

TERRY VENABLES EXCLUSIVE: Don't write Arsenal off just yet...

by CARL ELDRIDGE Arsene Wenger can lead Arsenal to the title by nipping ahead of Chelsea and Manchester United in the race for the Premier League crown -- but we'll need a slice of luck to do so. That's the verdict of former England manager Terry Venables, who reckons that the glorious Gunners would be in a stronger position if they had a bigger squad. Venables admits he has written off our chances of bringing home the top flight silverware seve…
