Barca: We DON'T want Fabregas
The Daily Mail see it differently but they don't have access to Laporta. They say our recent request to Barcelona that they stop their public pursuit of Fabregas was meant to bring to an end the speculation, but the paper wonders how long the patriotic Catalan will put up with such sub-standard performances as the one against Porto.
Fabregas has publicly insisted his focus is firmly on Arsenal's fight to end our trophy drought since their FA Cup final win in 2005. But they say he sounds 'increasingly exasperated' as we fail to live up to his high expectations, as he made clear following the 2-1 defeat at Porto on Wednesday night.
'The other top teams don't make these mistakes as often as we do,' said Fabregas. 'Sometimes we make mistakes that at the top level you pay for and this is one of those nights. It happened against Chelsea and Man United and now again so I think we have to try to find the solution to these problems because it is costing us many, many things.
Fab has his say on Lucasz Fabianski in the Sun after the howlers that gave Porto two soft goals. The red top says even before the game, some of our defenders are understood to have been nervous playing in front of the Pole. But Fabregas added: "These things happen - I don't know if it was the referee's mistake or ours but this is football. Now we have to come back at the Emirates.
"Lukasz is strong and we have to be there for him. Sometimes when you are young in a big game, these things happen to you. You can be a little bit down but the team will be 100 per cent behind him and help him in the next game to be back to his best. He is a very good keeper. He had his chance against Porto but sometimes it doesn't go your way." Hmm.
On the second leg, Fabregas said: "There are no favourites in football. They are winning so if you want to call someone favourites, they are because they are winning 2-1. But we don't look at it that way.
"We have to consider the Premier League again, then the national team, the league and then the Champions League. It was good to get the away goal, although obviously we don't like to lose the game.
"I suppose it had to be Sol who scored, on a day when he made his return to the Champions League. We were playing well, we were controlling the game, we were having chances, until the second goal.We lost some tackles that you would never expect to lose, the fans were behind them they put a lot of pressure on us and after that I don't think we performed well."
The paper adds that It appeared Fabregas was being singled out for some rough treatment, particularly just before the break with tempers boiling over at half-time as the players walked towards the tunnel.
He added: "I felt some really bad challenges but from my part there is no excuse. The referee is the one who must control the game. I'm playing in a more advanced position than I am used to. I receive the ball all the time with my back to goal and so it is difficult because I always have someone in my back.
"It is different situation for my game but I am learning a lot and you have to be stronger. It is nice to learn from it."
Meanwhile there is a bit of light relief in the Telegraph this morning with the news that Manuel Almunia is set to hand AW 'a major boost' by playing through the pain of an injured finger against Sunderland tomorrow following Fabianski's disastrous display against Porto.

we haven't signed chamakh??!!
Ah! Manuel what a hero you are, playing with a sore finger! Bert Trautman played the best part of an FA Cup Final with a broken neck!
I'm heartily sick of the whingeing from over paid prima-donas who find excuses for either not playing or playing poorly due to trivial injuries.
We were told Vermaelen had broken his leg, it was a bruise, Song has knee ligament damage yet is fit enough to play on Saturday, if he had damaged his ligaments he wouldn't even be able to contemplate playing so soon. I'Ve damaged ligaments in both knees in skiing accidents and they didn't miraculously repair themselves in seven days.
Now we hear that Diaby (our very own "sicknote") has also damaged knee ligaments.
The question must be asked... Are our players fit for purpose?. Not in my opinion!
For someone who doesn't like to hear people criticise you certainly have plenty of it to spread around, I always find it amusing to hear people whingeing about others who whinge.
I would just rather lick my wounds, brush myself off and support the team I love.
Although neither approach will alter the way the team plays, I just feel better by being positive. Come on you Gooners!!
JIN was stating fact, not negativity. Sure, let's be positive but not blind for God's sake, some recent performances have been difficult to take but not as much as feeble excuses, as another blogger stated on Jimc's thread we need the steel of AFC teams of days gone by.
Well said Jin, totally agree with you.
