Arsene Wenger goes in to today’s FA Cup clash knowing that realistically it is the only trophy that can end our seven-year silverwear drought. That’s probably why he is set to start RVP up front against Alex McLeish’s men at the Emirates.
But as you would ecpect given the lack of success at the club of late, AW is also eyeing new talent for the future. And he is interested in recruiting Spanish teen Lucas Torró to the club in the summer. AW has been impressed by the Alcoyano midfielder who is just 17.
Torró made his senior debut last week when he came on as substitute during his side’s segunda division game against Almeria, and has previously been linked with a move to both Real Madrid and Barcelona.
But Valencia however have first dibs on the player. “Valencia has priority over the player, since they have a contract with our club,” said Alcoyano president Juan Serrano.
Meanwhile, another player on AW’s radar is Fulham’s American striker Clint Dempsey. And, helpfully, he has admitted it is his dream to play in the Champions League (I know, we have to make the top four first).
Dempsey, 28, is the most prolific American goalscorer in the Premier League’s history and he also became the first US player to score a hat-trick in the Premier League with his three goals in Fulham’s 5-2 win over Newcastle. He said, “You should never get content - I want to play in the Champions League. Nobody thought I would get this far. I want to go as far as I can.”
He is said to be on the market for £10million.
