African Cup of Nations Watch

Cameroon 3-2 Zambia (Lubango)
Sunday, Jan 17

Alex Song looked bewildered at the end of Cameroon’s victory against Zambia. The Arsenal man had helped his team to an important first win but looked happy to see it finish after some unconventional football, the sort which would have reminded Song how far from the Premiership he was, if he didn’t already know it.
Errors from both keepers made the game jittery throughout although it was The Lions who held their nerve when Mahammadou Idrissou headed home the winner after 86 minutes. Song showed his usual calmness but will be feeling the strain having met a physical match in James Chamanga and an extremely energetic Zambia side.
A win moves Cameroon into second place in Group D with one more game to play. They sit one point behind Gabon and by the same margin above Tunisia. A draw would take them through if Zambia fail to beat Gabon.
Next game: Cameroon vs. Tunisia
