Arsenal Targets To Keep Your Eye On In Rio

If anything has suggested Arsene Wenger needs to invest a little bit more in his squad, it’s been the last few weeks. The Premier League season has gone by in typical fashion this year for the Gunners, with injuries to the likes of Walcott and Wilshere not helping the cause.
Strengthening is a must in the summer, and what a shop window the World Cup will be. There are plenty linked with a move to the Emirates but here are our top five to keep your eye on in Rio.
Loic Remy
Remy is all set to leave QPR this summer as he searches for Champions League football. And not even ‘Arry can blag that for next year. The Newcastle loanee has been closely monitored by Arsenal this season and he’s all set to travel to Rio alongside Karim Benzema and Gunners striker Olivier Giroud. Of course Arsenal have to secure fourth spot first.
Julian Draxler
Arsenal tried to sign the young German midfielder in January but couldn’t stump up the asking price. A good tournament in Brazil and they might have to. It would be a huge signal of intent if Wenger could secure the Schalke man, as he looks a dead cert to play a starring role in the Germany World Cup 2014 bid.
Mario Mandzukic
A player like Madzukic is unlikely to want to play second fiddle, so with the arrival of Lewandowski at Bayern, the Croatian will see Rio as the perfect time to showcase his talents. His height could cause plenty of problems against teammate Dante in the opening fixture against Brazil, whilst he could be the difference against Mexico and Cameroon. He would certainly add something different to the Arsenal side too.
Romelu Lukaku
It’s been some season for on-loan Everton striker Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian has scored 14 in 25 for the Toffees this season and has been the striker on everyone’s lips bar Jose Mourinho’s it seems. The 23-year-old Chelsea man looks set for a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer, with a list of Premier League teams with their eye on him. If he stars in Rio, that list could spread internationally.
Antoine Griezmann
Griezmann is in fact not guaranteed a place at the World Cup just yet, but finish the season well for Real Sociedad and Dider Deschamps would be mad not to take him. So far the winger only has one cap to his name but with the Arsenal, Manchester United, and PSG looking at him. The 23-year-old has a €30m release clause in his contract, a good summer for the French will Arsene be brave enough to trigger it?
