Arsenal Tie Champions League Opener

Champions League 2016

Arsenal bounced back from an early opening goal within the first minute to draw their first match of their Champions League 2016 campaign. An early Sun Bets welcome offer would have resulted in a nice payout.

Despite a poor first half Arsenal managed to salvage a point against PSG through a dramatic late equaliser within the final 15 minutes of the match will leave PSG to rue multiple missed chances after scoring in the first minute of their Champions League opener.

Arsenal’s unbeaten away record against French teams in European competitions seemed under threat as Unai Emery’s side streamed forward, however, a change of tactics in the second half, coupled with some superb goalkeeping from David Ospina who replaced Petr Cech kept Arsenal in the game so that Alexis Sanchez could grab an equaliser.

Giroud was brought on to enliven a tame attacking display and picked up two yellow cards in his 27 minutes, the second for an altercation in which Italian midfielder Verratti also picked up a second yellow resulting in both players leaving the field prematurely. The departure of Giroud will no doubt give Arsene Wenger a bit of a headache for the next 2 Champions League fixtures which will see Giroud missing out.

Arsenal Wenger commented after the match:

“We wanted to start at a high pace and after a minute we are 1-0 down. For 20 minutes we were outpaced, they started much better than us but we were resilient.”

“We played much better in the second half, they dropped a bit as well. We pushed very high and were vulnerable to the counter attack but it’s a good point for us.”

“Away from home you have to battle up front and Alexis Sanchez did well. He was isolated at times and in the second half it was easier for him.”

“I couldn’t work out the red cards. Giroud swears to me that he did nothing at all. We will look at it again. I believe Giroud.”
