Arsenal vs Chelsea Man of the Match

So, another season has come to an end in the Wembley sunshine and what a game it was. Surprisingly for almost everybody, the game never really looked in doubt for Arsenal. To secure the club’s 13th and Arsene Wenger’s 7th F.A. Cup every player stepped up yesterday and it really showed when we hit the post on three occasions and didn’t score.
As I said before, every player stepped up yesterday, making my Man of the Match decision much harder than in recent weeks. I would’ve picked the whole team if I could. From Mertesacker who made his first start of the season in defence, all the way to Olivier Giroud who came on to assist match-winner Aaron Ramsey, everybody put their all into that game but my Man of the Match is that little Chilean.
After a magnificent individual season for us, it was Alexis Sanchez who got the ball rolling yesterday. 5 minutes into the game he showed just why everybody at the club wants him here for seasons to come. After the ball controversially bounced off him to beat the Chelsea defence, and then telling Ramsey not to touch the ball as he was offside, Sanchez showed ice cold concentration in the box to place a volley in the net for his 30th goal of the season as well as his 5th goal at Wembley, the most for the club. Not a bad start eh?
Remember his strike in the final a couple of years ago against Aston Villa? Well, he definitely does. In a similar position with opponents dropping off, Sanchez tried to take the net off the goals again but unfortunately, the ball flew over. His confidence was clear.
Sanchez’s impact on the game was growing as the match went on. He should’ve got an assist for himself after playing in Ozil with a nicely weighted ball but the German couldn’t finish off on his weaker foot.
In the second half, Chelsea had their spell where they looked to be getting back into the game, but afterwards, Sanchez showcased his class once again. Looking for a third goal at the time the Chilean picked out Hector Bellerin on the break with an inch perfect ball, but the Spaniard couldn’t quite finish the chance off.
Like I said earlier, if I could give the Man of the Match to everyone I would but that isn’t quite possible is it. But like so many times this season, Alexis Sanchez was one of the stand out players at Wembley yesterday. But anyway, all the players that played yesterday along with the ones that got us to the final deserve to be congratulated as this record breaking trophy was well and truly a team effort. Well done boys!
