How must Arsenal fans feel now after ritual humiliation after humiliation by our rivals on the pitch during the last three seasons to find that finally Arsene Wenger has woken up to the need to strengthen our first team squad. Arsene has during recent media interviews cut a forlorn figure, his stressed utterances a shadow of the confident slayer of demons who once proudly held the Premiership Trophy aloft among his Invincibles in 2004. Since then every season after world class player after world class player left our ranks, he asked for trust as he refused to replace them. Currently he seems to want to blame everyone else for our misfortunes apart from himself and those players who are not good enough to wear an Arsenal shirt.
Finally he came out and uncharacteristically criticised his players after the Sunderland defeat for lacking desire and fight. But the truth of this debacle is only to obvious. Arsene has gambled and unfortunately the spate of injuries has exposed the soft underbelly of his youth experiment. In a season when the title should have been ours had he invested in the summer in a keeper another midfielder and a striker he would not have had to be scrambling around in the January transfer keeper to apply sticking plaster to this gaping wound. Better late than never we all whisper, our faith in the great man remains but it just goes to show that making the right decision sooner saves humiliation…
