Koscielny: Podolski vital for trophy tilt

LAURENT Koscielny reckons Arsenal’s new signing Lukas Podolski could help Arsene Wenger’s side end the seven-year spell without a trophy. The Gunners wrapped up the signing of the Cologne striker last week and he will make the switch to the Emirates for a fee in the region of £11million.
And versatile defender Koscielny, who played against the German international forward in a pre-season game, has hinted that his firepower may contribute to a campaign in which we finally lift some silverware.
“We played against him pre-season so we’ve had a fairly recent look at him,” said Koscielny. ” He is a very good player with qualities different from those of our other attackers, and has a great left foot.
“I think he can help us buy scoring goals and, hopefully, helping us win things. I can’t see him having any problems here and look forward to welcoming him. It’s some more Polish heritage for the squad, too, because he was born there.
“It will be nice for him to have people like Wojciech Szczesny and Lukasz Fabianski – and Per Mertersacker, obviously – around and should help his integration.”
It is generally accepted that Koscielny has improved no end in his second season at the Emirates and the former Lorient player is happy to acknowledge he has made huge strides. He added: “I think I am definitely better than last year – I know this league and its players and am accustomed to the physical challenges.
“The first year was a learning experience for me. For me this is the best league in the world and you face strikers of many different qualities, so you need to be able to stop them. The games are intensive, everyone plays to score and to win, it’s different from the French league all round. I’ve learned a lot, as I say, and this season I’ve felt better. I am more confident and when you feel good – both on and off the pitch – you can give more for the team.”
Arsenal fans the world over certainly hope Koscielny will feel good come the final whistle against West Brom on Sunday in the final Premier League game of the season.
As you know, a Gunners victory will provide us with third spot in the table and Champions League football…

  1. podolski is a graet signing for arsenal.. but i hope RVP stay at arsenal for a long time.. we should have mvilla.. and we also have to search for a right back as a backup for sagna.. ramsey out for loan

  2. Mr koscienty please don’t worry about the forward, the most concern is the back line.our back is not strong enough to stop all the goals.

  3. I am hearing Hazard has gone to city. I really hope it isnt true 🙁 http://arsenalblog247.wordpress.com/

    you da man kozzer!!

  5. I am intrigued as to how this signing will work, I have watched Podolski alot and there is no denying he is a tremendous talent, I also don’t want to come across as scare mongering but he really does take up the same inside left positions that Van Persie thrives on, this is a left footed striker who can be found lurking in precisely the positions Rvp scored against Liverpool, Chelsea, etc..I hope for you guys it’s a case of 2 like minded left footed finishers, I prayas the old enemy  it is one in and one out and Wenger has verbally agreed to let RVP go..and replaced him with a similar type of finisher…(although noone can replace RVP)

HI BIGSY MATE…I FINK WEST BROM WILL BEAT DA GOONERS 2-1 COZ  I DREMT IT LASTNITE AND ALSO WE WON OURS 3-0 MEANING WE FINISH ABOVE EM AND TAKE 3RD OH AND NEWCASTLE BEAT EVERTON AND GOT 4TH HAHA….BIGSY IF THATS DA CASE DO U FINK ARRY WILL STAY AND LEAD US TO MORE CHAMPIONS LEAGE GLORY LIKE LAST TIME OR DO U RECKEN DA SPECIAL ONE WILL COME AND BE OUR MANAGER INSTEAD?

      • Jose has made no secret of his desire to manage Man United,  I think he is unlikely to roll up at City now with them certain to win the title, he wouldn’t have been able to go to United from City anyway, and Chelsea are a no go, I think he could use us as a stepping stone yes, but we don’t have the funds or the structure in place to pay him for his services, I think as Spurs fans we need to pay close attention to what Guardiola is up to, I think it is fair to say this lot have his type of football, and have the infrastructure in place to accomodate his methods when he comes out of his sabbatical, Redknapp for me can F*ck off, he is useless, tactically naive and just a down right bullshitter, no man brings on a holding midfield player and takes off a forward with 15 minutes to go when you need 3 points, ..I would like to see Jurgen Klopp down the spurs, he is methodical and just the type of man who would have recognised the game was won at 2-0 at the emirates and ensured we got 3 points instead of all out gung ho naive style nonsense, we should be smoking fat cigars in 3rd and Redknapp has once again demonstrated that killing the same players all season does not work, we collapsed last season feb onwards too, he will not rotate his players and is hell bent on turning a club into ageing players for short term fixes, get shot of him now and let nancy boy Bale go for £40 million, because that is one over rated asset…Moyes as an absolute minimum !

        • I also think West Brom will test Arsenal and a draw wouldn’t surprise at all, however I wouldn’t trust us lot to get 3 points against anyone right now and hand on heart think we will nick 4 th, fortunately it will be enough to secure champ lge status, as Chelsea have not got a hope in hell of beating Bayern on their own soil, they look tired and were lucky to hold on to the FA Cup lead they created on Saturday, Munich will be a stiff almost insurmountable challenge as they can do it with goals and grit as the Madrid games demonstrated..we will get that much desired spot but it should have been secured weeks ago !..and when i say much desired I don’t mean by me, to me the champ lge is a waste of time and isn’t worth watching until FEB !

You don’t seem to post without mentioning each other, are you a double act living in the same house?

          • haha, looks like you’ve caught them out!

        • The game was over at the Emerates before tottenham scored, even at 2-0 they were hanging on. Arsenal exposed tottenham’s complete lack of footbal wit.

          • yeah perhaps but 1 game don’t make a season, otherwise I would childishly start making references to the win at WHL, I think we both know the bigger issues are dropping points in other fixtures rather than dwelling on 2 derby matches.

it was the 1 game that you mentioned.

          • It was an example we would all remember

If u idiots on here acutally new about football u would know podolski is a better striker than Rvp

  8. why doesn’t arsenal c employ Tonny Adams as our defensive coach? also, we should let go 0f Chamak,Sqillacqui,Djourou,Arshavin, Bentner,Vella, Sagna , and bring in M’villa, Youssi Benayoun, Kaboul of Tottenham to improve on the team
