The Loan Report: How is Daniel Crowley Doing?

The Loan Report

Dan Crowley joined Arsenal in 2013 signing for the club from Aston Villa at 15 years of age. At the time Crowley was one of the hottest youngsters in football, who was destined for great things, however things have not quite gone to plan.

Having been loaned out previously to Barnsley and Oxford, Crowley found his loan spell cut short by the respective clubs after failing to make an impact.

The England U19 player clearly had talent in abundance but, it’s his attitude which may be holding him back.

Crowley was loaned out to Dutch side Go Ahead Eagles in January this year with a view to kick start his career.

He may not be the biggest but, has fantastic technical ability which has suited the Dutch league.

For Crowley, he felt his disappointing loan spells were down to Oxford and Barnsley playing long ball football, which made his task as an attacking midfielder who creates chances, more difficult with the ball going over his head more than to his feet. He may have a point, but sometimes you need to get your head down and show the world what you can do.

The 19-year-old certainly has the ability. His recent goal for the Go Ahead Eagles epitomized his talents, receiving the ball on the left hand side of the box, curling a fantastic strike into the net. He has played 10 times for the Dutch club so far this season, scoring two goals in the process.

He is blessed with quick feet as well as creating and scoring goals. Crowley is also a set piece specialist. He seems a perfect fit for Arsenal, although his slight frame may hinder him. But his passing ability is excellent and he can cross a ball extremely well. His vision is great and he is able to spot a team mates runs. He can play in central midfield or as an attacking midfielder. In the middle he is able to find space to give himself time to turn and pick his pass.

For Crowley, his current loan spell is vital. At 19-years-old, he is close to make or break time. A player with so much talent deserves a chance, but his attitude needs to match. He has the ability to be a great player in the future, but it’s now up to Crowley to show what he can do.
