Official: Arsenal confirm deal for Real Madrid star Ozil

Arsenal have pulled off a sensational £42.5million swoop for Real Madrid star Mesut Ozil.
Playmaker Ozil has put pen to paper on a lucrative five-year deal at the Emirates for £130,000-a-week.
Arsene Wenger has dithered all summer to make a marquee signing but snapped up the Galactico ace with the transfer window set to close at 11pm.
Wenger said: “We are extremely pleased to have signed Ozil he is a great player with proven quality at both club an international level and we have watched and admired him for some time he has all the attributes I look for in an Arsenal player.”
Midfielder Ozil, 24, underwent a medical with Bayern Munich and Germany team doctor Hans Muller-Wolfhart after being told he was surplus to requirements in the Spanish capital. The Bernabeu giants needed to recoup cash after splashing £86million on Tottenham maestro Gareth Bale earlier today.
Wenger was said to be keen on both Ozil and his team-mate Angel Di Maria and manager Carlo Ancelotti was told to make a choice of which player to sell.
The deal makes Ozil the best paid player at Arsenal and the £42.5million fee breaks the previous club record of £16.5million paid for Santi Cazorla.
Ozil signed for Real Madrid from Werder Bremen in the summer of 2010 for a fee of £12.4m.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have also agreed a deal with Italian second division side Palermo to sign keeper Emiliano Viviano, 27.
Viviano almost joined the Gunners a year ago but a deal couldn’t be put together. However, the shot-stopper has now switched to north London.
Wenger said of the loan signing: “Viviano is a player that we have rated for some time and we are very pleased to have signed him on loan. He’s experienced and has proved himself at a high level, and provides us with excellent cover to our existing goalkeepers.”
