Wenger keen to get Alexis Sanchez to pen new deal with Arsenal after brace in win over Bournemouth

Arsene Wenger will redouble his efforts to retain the services of Alexis Sanchez after his two goals helped sink Bournemouth.
Gunners striker Sanchez was at the double for Wenger’s men as they chalked up a vital 3-1 win over the Cherries in the Premier League at the Emirates Stadium yesterday.
Theo Walcott grabbed the other goal in a game which saw returning full-back Mathieu Debuchy limp off injured and forward Olivier Giroud pick up what looked like a hamstring problem.
The win meant Arsenal stayed in touch with the top four in a weekend in which their rivals for the title all won, except for Manchester United and Tottenham whose ambitions to be crowned champions look like they are already on the wane.
And Chilean firecracker Sanchez’s nose for goal, plus the extraordinary amount of toil he gets through for the cause has made it essential for Wenger to ward off possible suitors.
Wenger said: “Even when Alexis looks dead, he’s still alive and always finds the resources to do something special. He has that conditioning which allows him to always find an extra gear to be dangerous”.
“Contract talks with Alexis are important. How important it is, I don’t know. We have some time in front of us”.
Eddie Howe’s side put on a decent display against the Gunners but their performance didn’t surprise Wenger, who says their brand of football will always pose problems for opponents.
He added: “They weren’t exactly the side I wanted to play after Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain. They are a tricky side who can keep the ball and, if you’re not well organised, you can be in trouble.”
Arsenal are in action once more on Wednesday when Southampton are the visitors to north London for a quarter-final EFL Cup clash.
