Wenger told to buy Samba striker as cover for Giroud at Arsenal

Arsene Wenger has been told Brazilian striker Alexandre Pato could be the player to recruit as cover for Olivier Giroud.
The Gunners find themselves five points clear at the top of the Premier League table and face a Champions League test tonight when they meet Borussia Dortmund in Germany.
France hitman Giroud is in sparkling form for the Emirates outfit but pundits fear an injury to the forward could derail Wenger’s side’s campaign.
Nicklas Bendtner is the only recognised senior goal-getter within the Gunners’ ranks and would struggle to fill Giroud’s boots if the in-form net-buster was crocked.
Samba star Pato, 24, is back in Brazil playing for Corinthians after almost six years plying his trade at AC Milan.
And now Corinthians director Roberto de Andrade has suggested that north London would be an ideal destination for Pato.
Corinthians are looking for a healthy return on their £12.2million purchase of Pato which means a switch to another club in Brazil would be unlikely.
He said: “Considering his value, I think it’s hard that he moves to another Brazilian club
“If Arsenal are interested in Pato, we don’t rule out selling him in the winter transfer market.”
Pato is supposedly seeking a high-profile move to enhance his chance of making the national squad for next summer’s World Cup.
And, interestingly, he turned down a move to Arsenal’s north London rivals Tottenham last summer.
He said: “Tottenham had called Corinthians to ask for my transfer. I sat at the table with the club and my agent and I decided I wanted to stay.”
