Aaron Ramsdale has highlighted Reiss Nelson and Gabriel Martinelli’s battles in training, with the two Arsenal wingers developing into rivals at London Colney.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the England international revealed that the Arsenal youngsters are as competitive as it comes in training, with Nelson currently Martinelli’s understudy in the Gunners’ set-up as the Brazilian has made the left-wing position his own.

Versatile enough to play out on the right, Nelson has established himself as a crucial squad player for Arsenal this season, with the 23-year-old’s winner against AFC Bournemouth one of the moments of the year for supporters. Yet Martinelli’s form has kept the attacker out of the regular starting XI.

Why Pele Is Overrated.

Competitive spirits can keep a squad going in a historic season, and it appears that Nelson and Martinelli caught the memo, with Ramadale saying about the duo: “I think it’s only more pronounced for us (goalkeepers) because only one of us plays. It’s still super competitive with the likes of, for instance, Reiss Nelson and Gabi Martinelli.

The England international added: “That’s a big battle on the training pitch and both players give it their all every single session. But at the end of the day, Reiss could still play as well if Gabi plays.”

Indeed, rivalries on the training pitch have the potential to take players to a whole new level, and given the insane potential both Martinelli and Nelson have, there’s no telling just how good the pair can come if they continue this competition in the years to come.
