Arsenal Insider Awards: Game Of The Season

Next up for you to vote on in the Arsenal Insider awards is game of the season.
If I’m honest, there wasn’t many to choose from, and two of the three nominees are games played before the turn of year, which really highlights how the season has gone for Arsenal.
The three nominees for you to choose from are as follows.
Arsenal 3-0 Chelsea, Saturday 24th September 2016
Arsenal gave Antonio Conte’s new Chelsea side the really run around, and quite simply battered them in the first half.
Alexis Sanchez opened the scoring in the 11th minute, pouncing on a poor Gary Cahill back pass, racing in on goal before keeping his composure to lift the ball over Thibaut Courtois.
Theo Walcott doubled the lead just three minutes later following some great build up play on the edge of the penalty area, with Mesut Ozil adding a brilliant third on the counterattack just five minutes before half-time.
In truth, the game was a real turning point for Chelsea more than Arsenal. Following the defeat, Conte switched to 3-4-3 and the rest, as they say, is history.
However, take nothing away from Arsenal, it was a devastating performance.
Arsenal 2-1 Manchester City, Sunday 23rd April 2017
With Arsenal’s Premier League season on the slide, the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City represented a great opportunity to add some positivity and push us towards a trophy.
The game remained goalless for just over an hour until Sergio Aguero burst clear for City, finding the back of net to give Pep Guardiola’s side the lead.
Arsenal showed heart though, with Nacho Monreal scoring a brilliant volleyed equaliser just nine minutes later, sending the game to extra time.
101 minutes of football had passed before someone finally found the winner, and of course it was Alexis Sanchez, stabbing the ball home after City failed to clear a free-kick.
That sent Arsenal to Wembley once again, setting up a final with Premier League champions Chelsea.
Arsenal 6-0 Ludogorets, Wednesday 19th October 2016
Arsenal’s biggest win of the season, The Gunners gave Ludogorets a real beating in the UEFA Champions League group stage.
Alexis Sanchez gave Arsenal the lead in the 11th minute, brilliantly lobbing the ‘keeper, a goal that was nominated for Arsenal Insider goal of the season.
Theo Walcott added a superb second from 25-yards, curling the ball into the top corner after being picked out by Mesut Ozil.
The Gunners came out firing in the second-half, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain making it 3-0 just a minute after the interval.
And then Mesut Ozil took over.
The German got his first in the 55th minute, beating the offside trap and showing great control to bring down Santi Cazorla’s long pass, slotting the ball under the ‘keeper to make it 4-0.
A lull in the action lasted until the 83rd minute, when substitute Lucas Perez squared the ball for Ozil to tap home his second, and Arsenal’s fifth at the back post.
The playmaker completed his hat-trick with three minutes remaining, volleying home at the near post to take the match ball and all three points.
