The Arsenal Lunchtime Bulletin

Afternoon Bulletin

Early team news

Danny Welbeck won’t play against Sutton United due to the plastic pitch. Instead Welbeck played 70 minutes for the under 23’s, losing 2-1 to Leicester. Welbeck is still building his match fitness after the knee injury which has kept him out since March last year. However, early reports show Arsenal possibly making 7 changes to the starting 11.

Plastic or artificial?

Are they called plastic pitches or artificial pitches? Whatever they are known as, Arsene Wenger is certainly wary of it. The manager has had the team training on a 3G pitch to get the squad used to playing on the surface. However he still has cause for concern as Arsenal have been training on a dry indoor pitch, whereas Sutton United water their pitch to make it quicker.

No Wrexham nightmare

As always, when Arsenal face a small team in the FA Cup, out pops Micky Thomas who played and scored the free kick on that fateful day. As some of you may remember, and I have tried to delete it from memory, but Wrexham knocked Arsenal out of the FA Cup. A Thomas free kick giving Wrexham a 2-1 win. Thomas has stated that Wenger and Arsenal will be scared to face Sutton and Wenger may show the players the Wrexham game to focus the players. Interesting view from Thomas there, luckily he is never one to drag that game out of the closet year on year!

FA Cup draw

If Arsenal do beat Sutton tonight they face another non-league team in the quarterfinals after being drawn against Lincoln city. Lincoln are on a high after knocking out Premier League team Burnley in the last round.

Who is Stephy Mavididi?

Currently on loan at Charlton Athletic, the 18 year old almost scored a worldly in their match against Rochdale which finished 3-3. He may not have scored, but it was his dribbling skills that had people talking after taking on and beating 5 players. For more on young Mavididi, keep an eye out for an upcoming loan report.

Transfer news out

The Daily Star is reporting that AC Milan are interested in signing Lucas Perez for £14.5 million. Wenger has recently said he brought in Perez due to Danny Welbeck’s injury, although he did not expect Welbeck to be back so quickly.

Transfer news in

A possible transfer target is Kylian Mbappe. The 18 year old striker is currently playing for Monaco and has scored 7 goals in 18 Ligue 1 appearances. Thierry Henry rates the player, who apparently has been tagged as the new Thierry Henry. High praise indeed.
