Arsenal v Liverpool – match preview

Team news, facts and figures ahead of the Premier League clash between Arsenal and Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium.

Samir Nasri has been included in Arsenal’s squad despite reportedly being on the verge of a move to Manchester City. The Gunners will be without suspended duo Gervinho and AlexSong while defenders Johan Djourou, Kieran Gibbs (both hamstring) and Armand Traore(groin) are not available either. MidfielderTomas Rosicky (thigh) will be rested, whileJack Wilshere and Abou Diaby (ankle) are still out.

Defender Glen Johnson is the only injury doubt for Liverpool. The England defender missed last week’s opening match with a hamstring injury and manager Kenny Dalglish rates him as his only doubt for the trip to the Emirates Stadium. Dalglish may opt to make changes with Martin Kelly and Dirk Kuyt pushing for starting places.

Arsene Wenger: “I will not walk away from the club. [Scrutiny] is part of the world at the moment and I don’t have a problem with it perfectly frankly because I can live with that. I try to focus on making the right decisions for the club.”

Kenny Dalglish: “Maybe we’re due for a win. But it is not going to make it any easier for us because they have lost Fabregas, Nasri is unlikely to be playing and they have a couple of suspensions. It will still be a difficult game for us. Arsenal have been most football fans’ second team because they play great football and are entertaining to watch.”

Last season’s meeting between these two sides saw the two latest goals in last season’s whole Premier League, Robin van Persie’s 98th minute penalty being cancelled out by Dirk Kuyt’s 102nd minute spot-kick equaliser.

There have been more hat-tricks scored in this fixture than any other in Premier League history.

Andrey Arshavin has scored five goals from just six shots on target in the Premier League against Liverpool.

Liverpool have only won one of the last 11 Premier League games Arsenal and none of the last eight, though six of the last eight have been draws.

Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 11 Premier League home games against Liverpool.

Arsenal have only won just two of their last 12 Premier League matches.

The Gunners have scored just three goals in their last five Premier League home matches.

Arsenal posted the worst discipline stats for the first weekend, with five yellow cards, one red and a post-match charge for Alex Song.

Luis Suarez won more fouls than any other player in the Premier League in the opening round of matches (6).

Robin van Persie has scored 17 goals in his last 16 Premier League starts.

Martin Atkinson takes charge of this game; he was in charge when these sides met at Anfield last season, sending off Koscielny and Joe Cole.

  1. I had a dream last night, in this dream Miyaichi scored a fantastic volley…so let me hope this will come to pass

  2. I hope your dream comes true.

  3. I hope we lose today’s game so that Mr. Hubris can realise we do not have a team to talk about.I pray and from ther he should go for Demba Cisse Papis….the boy is free and he is class. Can take the role of injury prone Vn Persie…….else we are toast.

    • Go and support some other team!  You are not worthy to call yourself an Arsenal supporter.

Mind you finding another team that would want you as a supporter will be difficult.

  4. 1st half
We are opening with Nasri (last match for the team?)
Koscielny got injured (Miquel came in)

    2nd half
Frimpong got sent off (2 yellows).
    Ramsey scored an own goal
Bendtner has to come in as a sub for Walcott.
Our team in sixes and sevens.
Luis Suarez hammered in a 2nd goal; a nail to the coffin. (Suarez is on fire and is always a threat. Game plan by Dalglish to put him and Meireles in after our team were reduced to 10-men; esp losing a DMC in Frimpong)
Our fans booing and leaving the stadium.
    End of game.

Our injury list piles up: Diaby, Gibbs, Djourou, Rosicky, Traore, Koscielny, Wilshere
So does our suspension list: Gervinho, Song, Frimpong (against Man United at Old Trafford next …. a thrashing by the Red Devils at their home ground in the making ~!?!?)
And we still have Udinese (Away) to come to salvage a CL place.

Confidence and morale reaching a new low … towards a bottomless pit of agony.

Players are wasted; Wenger and his staff are Clowns; Mr Poker face – Ivan Gazidis must be sacked.

  5. Wenger you frigging blind stubborn frog…BUY NOW!!!!

  6. Man of the Match Jose Enrique a left back!  What did we have as left back?  A right back!  Why didn’t we buy Enrique when he made it clear he wanted to leave Newcastle?  Oh! that’s right we’ve got two world class left backs, Gibbs and Traore, only they are both injured and they’re just not world class anyway.

Note to Wenger…. Buy Leighton Baines.

Koscielny suffers back problems and is replaced by probably the most inexperienced defender in the Premiership.

We don’t need to buy a centre back because we have Squillaci, Djourou, Koscielny, Vermaelen and Miquel.  Problem is the first three are injured, and the first two of those aren’t much good, and the last is a green kid.

Note to Wenger…. Buy Cahill and Jagielka.

With the state of the squad, as it stands, at this moment our European football for the foreseeable future will be played on Thursday evenings in the Europa cup…if there is any European football.  As to our league and cup chances…Zero!

  7. The agony……Wenger just likes tormenting himself but now he has taken it to the players. You could see it in Sagna’s face as he struggled to play an unfamiliar posion simply because that Wenger idiot does not want to spend…..The booing should awaken the bench and board but more so if we fail to qualify for CL (I am certain we won’t)……Not that bad though. We are still two places above the relegation zone……HOPELESS!
