Santi Cazorla has revealed the love of laughter helps him perform at his best for Arsenal.
Spain star Cazorla could be dubbed the giggling Gooner after admitting he can’t imagine doing the business on the pitch for Arsene Wenger’s side without making it a joyful experience.
Cazorla, 28, joins up with his Emirates team-mates later this week in readiness to host Southampton in the Premier League this Saturday when domestic football returns after the international break.
Cazorla is hoping to have the last laugh on the high-flying Saints and keep Arsenal top of the table. And the £16million recruit from Malaga says he can’t imagine playing the game without having a smile on his face.
He said: “I have joy, inside and out. I love to laugh. Even in difficult times trying to bring positive thoughts. They say I always laugh, but it is a way of seeing life.
“And I think my football is really happy. I just do not understand football without joy and I can’t understand that you can play without joy.”
Meanwhile Cazorla has lifted the lid on his feelings about playing alongside Mesut Ozil, 24, a £42.5million capture from Real Madrid in the summer who has given the entire Arsenal set-up a lift since he arrived in transfer deadline day.
Cazorla said of the gifted Germany playmaker: “He is pure talent, he is simply magic. It seems that he can change a game with his control, just one pass. Yes, we were surprised he came to Arsenal, because we didn’t expect him to leave Madrid. And when he chose our club it was a gift.”
