Dixon: Why Arsenal can beat Rovers

Former Arsenal captain Lee Dixon is backing his old side to come good against Blackburn Rovers this weekend.  The defender turned pundit believes that the Gunners have turned a corner since their 8-2 thrashing at the hands of Manchester United three weeks ago.

“Our rehabilitation continued in midweek with a Champions League point at Borussia Dortmund. The performance wasn’t perfect, but it was a great result and the positivity in the camp should ensure we return from the north west with three Premier League points.

“Blackburn will be a tricky encounter. They finally ended their losing streak last week with a much-needed draw at Fulham. And there were a few encouraging signs too, with Junior Hoilett looking lively. He’s 50-50 to make Saturday’s game as it stands, and we’ll need to keep an eye on him if he does.

“Steve Kean is talking everything up at the moment, but it always comes down to your league position and the players and fans know that. Despite Arsenal’s relatively poor start, they are still quality and they should win.

“Looking back at my own career we always enjoyed playing at Ewood Park, regularly getting good results against Rovers. And that run has generally continued for the team since my playing days came to an end. Football is a psychological game as much as a physical one and I just see Arsenal being too strong for Rovers both in the head and on the pitch.

“Just because I fancy Arsenal to win, I wouldn’t discount Rovers from scoring. Per Mertesacker is still bedding in and has relationships to build with his team-mates at the back. I think there may be some communication issues with this back four and I can see a Blackburn player getting on the scoresheet, but Arsenal should have too much firepower once the final whistle goes.”

Lee Dixon was speaking in his weekly column for Betfair.

  1. I am glad Lee Dixon has decided to emphasise the positives.I’m fed up with dooms mongers. Yes, we lost horribly at Old Trafford but lets move on as the kids are trying their best to. All these Nassri updates why he actually left as opposed to the bags of money offered. None has actually said it but its implied and all these constant claims of having left for other reasons just confirms it.

I dont know about you but we played well away against German champions and Citeh also played well at home against napoli who were 3 rd in Serie A which is not particularly on the up. Not taking credit in advance but we are not as rubbish as our enemies would have you believe.

    ARSENAL Forever

  2. Just another slap at the arsenal medical/physio team. Diaby was supposed yo be back end of august early sept. Now it seems its mid october. What is going on at this club? And this only one in many cases. Very frustrating indeed.

  3. Why Arsenal can beat Blackburn Rovers ?

I think the names say it all really ha ha

  4. 4 goals by bloody bottom of table Blacbiurn? ! Who can we beat if not them??

    Wenger out !!!

This the long painful end to Wenger era and it’s two seasons overdue. Will somebody please fire this total donkey. 6 million quid and we have relegation form.

  5. The self delusion of all the pro Wenger people is shocking, we get a lucky goal against Swansea and A draw against Dortmund and suddenly it’s a new dawn a fresh start.

Rubbish ! Wenger is still here so nothing has changed. He has failed we will be lucky to get mid table.

Shameful and shocking defending just as always. Wenger couldn’t organize a defense if he was paid 6 million quid — oh wait he is paid 6 million quid.
