Ian Wright has lauded Fabio Vieira after Arsenal’s 2-0 win against Wolves as the Portuguese playmaker bagged a key assist to secure the Gunners the three points on the road.
Speaking on Match of the Day, the Arsenal legend praised the 21-year-old midfielder as Vieira played a key role in the north London side claiming yet another win in the Premier League, with Mikel Arteta’s men now five points clear at the top of the Premier League heading into the 2022 FIFA World Cup break.
Vieira was introduced early as Granit Xhaka was forced off due to sickness. Yet despite the change, the former FC Porto star flourished against Wolves, with the midfielder assisting Martin Odegaard’s first goal of the night as the Arsenal captain bagged a brace against the West Midlands side.
And Wright was impressed with what he saw from the youngster, with the midfielder saying when asked about Vieira’s performance: “Fabio Vieira came on and did fantastically well, came on for Xhaka, who unfortunately had to go off.”
With Arsenal now away from action for over a month due to the World Cup, many fans will still be pinching themselves over just how incredible results have been this season, with the Gunners now an incomprehensible five points clear at the top of the table.
Manchester City losing earlier in the day to Brentford guaranteed Arsenal’s place at the top of the league for Christmas. Yet Vieira’s performance sealed the deal that Arteta’s side will be five points clear ahead of the Premier League restart on Boxing Day.

Indeed, Vieira filled in for Xhaka effortlessly on Saturday night. And such a performance will give Arteta confidence that the Portuguese youngster has the potential to replace the Swiss international in the years to come, with more chances certain for the 21-year-old in 2023.
