Injury worries ahead of the weekend fixture
Arsenal could be missing seven first team players from the trip to Watford on Saturday evening. In defence the side will be missing Shkodran Mustafi following his injury while playing for Germany. He joins Callum Chambers on the side lines while Laurent Koscielny faces a race to be ready after suffering some trouble with his Achilles. In midfield Mesut Ozil is still in the recovery trail but could be available where as Francis Coquelin and Santi Cazorla will not play. Danny Welbeck is also certain to miss the game with a groin injury suffered earlier in the season. With another busy week including a European trip to face Red Star Belgrade, it could leave the side short of options.
Sanchez and Chile miss out on the World Cup
In a bizarre turn of events it seems that Alexis Sanchez’s team mate David Ospina could be the reason why Chile are not at the World Cup next summer. There were many permutations to last nights final group games of World Cup qualifying as any of four sides could have been eliminated. Chile were comfortably beaten 3-0 by table topping Brazil, but they missed out on a fifth place playoff position on goal difference only. That was thanks to Peru’s 1-1 draw at home to Colombia. Peru’s equalising goal seems to be due to an error by Colombia and Arsenal ‘keeper David Ospina. With the away side leading 1-0 with 15 minutes remaining Peru were awarded an indirect free kick. Paolo Guerrero for Peru did not seem to recognise that the free kick was indirect, instead electing to shoot at goal. Ospina got a hand to it but did not prevent the ball from going in. Had he left it then the goal would not had stood but instead his touch caused the goal to stand. Although the damage for Sanchez and Chile was likely done earlier in the campaign, to miss out in this way will be a bitter pill to swallow. Colombia, however, did secure their place in Russia next year following the draw.
Marseille tracking Perez
French club Marseille are monitoring the progress of Arsenal forward Lucas Perez. The Spanish goal scorer is currently on loan at Deportivo La Coruna as he searches for some form and game time. Marseille could look to move for the out of favour player who seems surplus to requirements at the Emirates. The striker scored his first goal since returning to Spain before the international break but the club have no future option to buy after the loan spell.
Alves would like to see Sanchez in Paris
Paris Saint-Germain and Brazil star Dani Alves has said that Alexis Sanchez joining him in France would be nice. Sanchez’s future is far from clear and PSG could be in line to make a move. When quizzed in the prospect Alves said:
“It’s a possibility. He’s courted by many teams. It would be nice if he joined us. I will always appreciate him and I will always wish him the best wherever he goes.”
Sanchez is currently linked to a number of others sides across Europe including Bayern Munich and Manchester City.
