Is David Dein set to return to the Arsenal? There is a rumour doing the rounds that the former vice chairman is poised to comeback to the club in some capacity after four years in the Gunners wilderness.
The speculation — and that is all it is at this stage — comes on the back of the Twitter account of Sport.co.uk. The editor last night tweeted: “Imminent news out of Arsenal Football Club. I am sworn to secrecy. I am told good news. I can say no more.” And he followed it up with: “Sport.co.uk understands that Arsenal will make a statement in the coming days which will relate to future of the club at boardroom level.”
This is from where the Dein rumours have surfaced. There is also a school of thought that the news concerns Danny Fiszman and his ongoing battle with cancer and while a victory against the disease is indeed good news, it doesn’t seem as pertinent to the club as, say, Dein’s re-emergence in the corridors of power.
I would welcome Dein back. He had, and probably still does, a brilliant relationship with AW and managed to use his influence as a powerbroker to the benefit of the club in so many ways — especially and, crucially, transfers — during his 24 years on the board.
Of course, the speculation may come to nothing. So what else could the news be about? It’s true that board have been in talks with Alisher Usmanov’s Red and White holdings so could he be about to be offered a seat on the board? No doubt the news will emerge as the day continues…what are your thoughts?
