Mbappe open to move
According to the Telegraph, Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe is open to a move to the Emirates. It seems Mbappe has not ruled Arsenal out due to manager Arsene Wenger and his track record for nurturing young players. Monaco have recently turned down a bid of £120m from Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain, depending on which report you read. The French club are looking for around £140m for the French sensation. Whether Arsenal will stretch that far remains to be seen but it would certainly bring the fans back on board if the club did pull off the signing of Mbappe.
Summer sell out
With the club working behind the scenes to keep Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez at the club it will mean players will have to depart. Premier League cost control measures restrict how much a wage bill can increase each year. If the club’s wages are more than £7m higher than last season – which it would be if Ozil and Sanchez sign – then the club need to make up the excess through extra external revenue, most likely to be through player sells. This could be why players like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are rumoured to be leaving, with only one year left on his contract and struggling to agree new terms, it makes sense. Add players like Olivier Giroud, who seems set to leave as the club won’t guarantee him regular first team football, and Jack Wilshere then it should be enough to sign Sanchez and Ozil and bring in new players.
The new home kit was launched with a mixed reaction. First off, it was good to see Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil promoting the new kit, giving all fans hope they will be staying. Of course, we all brushed over the fact Olivier Giroud was also in the pictures too. However, the kit itself, modelled live by Arsenal legends Robert Pires and Martin Keown looks good. It’s darker red which looks really nice, and then you get to the collar. The collar I’m still not sure about, has it been stuck on as an afterthought?
The club’s response to the collar is a ‘smart’ but ‘functional element’, whatever that means.
Sanchez decision after Cup
Alexis Sanchez is due to make his decision of should he stay or should he go after the Confederations Cup. Sanchez, who became Chile’s all-time top scorer after netting against Germany in a 1-1 draw is a wanted man, with both Bayern Munich and Manchester City both keen.
Recent reports have claimed that Sanchez is not an easy character to deal with on the training ground, in the dressing room or on the pitch. Things need to be going his way or he can be a moody player. But he is a winner and a goal scorer and sometimes that outweighs everything.
Arsenal are interested in Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka. The 22-year-old has looked good for Germany in the Confederations Cup and the club is weighing up an offer of £21m. The German played 41 times for Schalke scoring eight goals and assisting in six last season.
One more staff member to come
According to Arsenal, there will be one more staff member to join the club and assist current manager Arsene Wenger. So far we have seen Darren Burgess brought in as Director of high performance and Huss Fahmy as contract negotiator. Watch this space for the next announcement.
