'Only positive', 'extremely great': Some Arsenal fans hail £50k-a-week man's display against Burnley

Not a good day at the office for Arsenal, to put it mildly.

An individual error that can only be described as comedy and yet another inexplicable VAR decision mean the Gunners could only pick up a point in today’s trip to Burnley.

It started so well for Arsenal, who took the lead in the sixth minute through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The captain picked up Willian’s delivery and cut in from the left before firing a low shot which Nick Pope could not keep out at his near post.

Arsenal led until the 39th minute, when Bernd Leno and Granit Xhaka combined to gift the Clarets a way back into the game.

The goalkeeper played a short pass to an under-pressure Xhaka, who then attempted a crossfield pass which struck Chris Wood and found the back of the net.

Then we have the penalty incident, which saw Nicolas Pepe attempt to control the ball, only for it to strike Erik Pieters’ arm – but VAR didn’t see it as reason to award a spot kick.

There were some positives though – Calum Chambers got his first Premier League start since 2019, and he put in a pretty good performance at right-back.

Admittedly his attacking output wasn’t the best, but that’s not unexpected given his time away, and he did weigh in with some decent crosses, plus he was solid defensively.

Here is what some fans have been saying on social media about the £50,000-a-week man:
