Ox Contract Talks Stall & Juve In For Gunners Defender

Oxlade-Chamberlain stalls on new contract talks

Midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain remains one of a number of players yet to agree to a new Arsenal contract, despite being offered in excess of £100,000 per week. With interest from Chelsea and Liverpool, he does not feel under pressure to sign a new deal right away. Although he is now a regular feature in the Premier League he has not started a game in his preferred attacking position for some time. With just one week remaining in the transfer window, the club will be aiming to resolve the situation sooner rather than later.

Barcelona drop out of race for Seri

Arsenal’s pursuit of Nice midfielder Jean Seri has been handed a boost as Barcelona are no longer maintaining their interest. Apparently, the Ivorian’s representatives have grown tired of the negotiations with the Spanish giants and have decided not to continue with the move. The Gunners had been linked earlier in the summer until Barcelona stepped in and now could rekindle their interest. Seri has however admitted that he will remain at Nice for now and will travel to Amiens on Saturday. With Nice’s elimination from the Champions League to Italian side Napoli last night he now may be even closer to a move away.

Juventus in for central defender

Italian champions Juventus are linked to Shkodran Mustafi as cover for the departed Leonardo Bonucci who left for AC Milan this summer. Arsene Wenger could allow the German defender to leave after apparently failing to bond with his team mates since joining from Valencia. Arsenal will look to recoup the £35 million they paid for the 25-year-old last summer.

Coutinho a doubt for Liverpool game

Philippe Coutinho will miss tonight’s Champions League tie for Liverpool through illness and could well be ruled out for the weekends game against Arsenal. Amid much speculation about his future, the Brazilian is yet to feature for Liverpool this season.

Another youth player leaves

Savvas Mourgos has become the latest Arsenal academy graduate to leave the club this week as he moves to Norwich permanently. The Greek youth international made a handful of appearances for the U-23’s last season along with a number of games for the U-18’s in the past.

Bramall impresses Birmingham fans

Cohen Bramall made his first start since moving on loan to Birmingham City earlier this week in the Carabao Cup. Championship side Birmingham lost 2-1 to Bournemouth but the 21-year-old played well during his 77 minutes.
