Gareth Bale’s big money switch to Real Madrid could trigger Arsenal’s summer recruitment drive.
That’s the verdict of former Gunners star Ray Parlour, who believes Arsene Wenger will start his spending once the Tottenham star completes his transfer to the Spanish giants.
And former midfielder Parlour has urged the Frenchman to snap up stars such as Mesut Ozil and Karim Benzema.
Madrid will attempt to bring in funds to conclude the world-record £86million deal for Bale and in so doing may well be tempted to sell Angel Di Maria, Ozil and Benzema.
And Parlour reckons Wenger would do well to try to cash in on the Galacticos’ need to move players on to bring in money.
He said: “If the Gareth Bale deal goes through then there are a number of players that Real Madrid will need to get rid of. They will have to say, ‘we spent a lot on Gareth Bale so we can maybe let a couple of players go’. Mesut Ozil would be the player for me, I love the way he plays.
“Then there’s Karim Benzema. He would be a great signing because they need a striker like that. He craves chances. Just look at the players they have behind him Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere, they open up defences all the time.
“Arsenal miss that ‘Ian Wright’ type player and Benzema would do that. He’s not had loads of chances at Madrid but when he’s played, he’s scored goals.”
