Can the outpouring of love and support from our fans – aimed at the new, resilient Arsenal – help RVP stay at the club? I only ask because there are some intriguing quotes from the flying Dutchman in last night’s match programme for the dramatic 2-1 Premier League win over Newcastle.
You could be forgiven for thinking that Van the man – who showed just how much he cared for the club with his sheer joy at the win and his run-in with time-wasting Toon keeper Tim Krul – used his notes to drop the biggest hint yet that he will sign a new deal for Arsene Wenger in the summer.
And he talks about the superb atmosphere in the ground and that the fans and team are bonded as one in aid of the cause.
Speaking about the previous matches going into the match against Alan Pardew’s outfit, RVP said: “During that period our fans have been incredible. I really mean that – the atmosphere in the stadium has reached unbelievable levels and that makes me feel very proud.
“I sometimes hear people saying the Emirates can be quiet, but I am completely certain that those people will adjust their opinions now.
“Our bond with the supporters is special and has been there a long time, but in the last few games I feel that it has reached a new level.
“As I have said before it is down to us to give them that energy, to show them that energy, to show them that we are ready for the fight, and then they will respond. That’s what has happened recently – the fans and the players have worked together and made a really good team!”
To me, it doesn’t sound as if he is about to leave the club…
